Hey All (in best Cleveland voice),

Looking at converting my srw 250 into a drw. Found a dually rear end from a 90 f350 for a pretty decent price, but I was wondering if in the 87-91 rear ends, is the vehicle speed sensor on the pumpkin like the 92-97s or is it in the tranny? I have a 93, so I need a rear end that will accept the speed sensor in rear end.

Thanks in advance,
Trev

i don't think the sterling received the VSS/tone ring until 1992.
however i could be mistaken......but im fairly sure.

also, make sure the axle cames from a pickup f350 and not a cab and chassis f350.

The axle I pulled from an 88 CC F350 had the tone ring, and is a sterling. BUT I've also seen an 89 with out the tone ring, so look before you buy.

Thanks guys! Hopefully I can take a look at this rear end soon. It is is in Souix City, which is about three hours north of here. The guy seems competent, but then again you never can be sure. He wasn't quite sure what I was talking about with the speed sensor, which made me wonder if the 90 model didn't have the tone ring in the rear end.

interesting stuff.
so in 1990 then, all sterling rear axles had the tone rings then? was this the first year for them being standard?
i should probably ditch the rear adapters and get a dually axle too someday.

My 1989 has the sensor for the ABS right in the Sterling 10.25 diff housing (on a dually axle)- so at least some of them did.
