Are you running a diesel zf? Ive got a 460 zf in my crewcab.

If i ever pull my heads id probably do the cooling mod and 6.9 head gaskets.

Laser- i wonder about for testing. Make a solid fan clutch and see what it does. If it helps then more effort towards a 6.0 or horton style clutch would be good.

I wonder about some custom parts using an ac compressor clutch as the center?

Well.... I’m quietly waiting for some parts to try an alternative fan system. It’s been a low priority but I may get it all ready to try this year. I am carefully watching the ifrythings efforts.

And yes I’m running a diesel zf. I think 4th and 5th are the same though? I though the changes were 1st is lower. Reverse is lower and the 2 3 is closer together?? Can’t remember now.

Really? Huh, I must have missed that thread. Lol

I just checked, if anything, it would be a sell imposed ban. “We” have not banned him, that I can see. I think the last thread he participated in, touched a nerve......

My thoughts on the 3.55 vs 4.10 thing has always been with 4.10 I would probably tow in OD almost all the time but dropping to 4th now has me screaming to get to 60. With the 3.55, I probably downshift a little more, but I can comfortably run 60-65 all day long if I’m heavy. Just uses more fuel (maybe).

The thing that has me baffled in all this is that I’ve always read and been told to downshift to bring rpms up and egts down. I know the heads on these things are a major source of heat to the water system as is the oil cooler. Lowering egts should lower the cylinder head temps and piston/oil temps but I seem to be experiencing the opposite. It’s like the longer I can hold OD the lower the water temp. People have tried to explain to me why the higher rpm even though in theory with the lower ratio and lower egt the truck is working harder and hence the heat. That makes no sense to me. I can back off the throttle (less fuel) more rpm (more boost) egts 900-1000 on about any grade out here with the camper 60-65 and the water temp just climbs like crazy. The truck doesn’t care at all except the water temp.

I just don’t get it unless either my fan isn’t working or the thermostat isn’t passing water. Both are new motor craft. I do have the water cooled turbo adding heat to the system but again, if the egts are down, it should be happier too.
You mentioned you thought the turbo was being pushed out of its efficiency range a bit, do you think it’s being overspun enough to start overheating and dump that much heat into the cooling system? I haven’t looked at the charts for your turbo so I don’t know how much it’s being pushed. I’m pushing a stock 093 to 22 psi and not seeing any affect on my oil temps, it’s really an odd issue you got there.

I think the only real way to find the source of the heat would be to mount an infrared camera under the hood and work the engine over.

I think the compressor is probably fine. I worry the exhaust housing is too small for high rpm. I will some day check temperature of the incoming air. Yes the Ic sheds heat into the rad but enough guys have used that ic I’d think if it were a widespread issue it would have shown up.

The more I’ve pondered it, I really wonder if the air dam missing across the top of the grill was a bigger problem than I thought. If it wasn’t forcing air through the upper part of the radiator, that’s one problem but maybe the air going over(around) the rad was keeping the fan clutch too cool to really engage.......

Project seat belt is off to a slow start. After wrestling with the plastic for a half hour before finding the last screw, finally get it out. Drilled holes to size. Fished the plate up through the body (that might as well have been brain surgery). Finally get everything lined up using both hands a big toe and the tail I wish I had and go to put the rivets in. After 15 minutes of struggling I finally realize that the rivet gun ate itself.

Really????

Off to depot for another gun. Finally get it all riveted in and realize the bolts they supplied aren’t long enough. [emoji35]

In the end, pass side is done and ready to go back together. I have one seatbelt bolt with a longer shoulder that should work fine. I’d like to find its mate. I probably have it somewhere.

Now that I’ve done one side, hopefully the other side will go easier.

Did you ever think about mounting a cheap boost gauge in the truck temporarily as a exhaust back pressure gauge? That would tell you if the exhaust housing is too restrictive.

Hmm. No I did not. I even have a place to put it. The banks up pipe has a port where they put the pyro. I’ll have to give that some thought.

So we are all done with the shoulder belts. Need to put the buckles in. Finish putting the plastic back in. Then seats.

Yes this is taking a long time. No it’s really not that hard. I’m just too old and fat to maneuver around in the ext cab. I’ll never own another one.

Agree on the extended cab opinion. Had one when younger and thought it was great, now it serves more as extra space rather than additional seating. If doing again, I'd build a crewcab. Your last interior photo shows brick trim (with divider in rear window) and I know you installed OBS rear side windows???

I haven’t cut the divider out of the plastic trim. Once I get the seat back in they are gone.

10-4. I used OBS interior trim, however also didn't install rear seat belts.

I looked for a while for decent trim but iirc the reds don’t match exactly. You converted to obs dash didn’t you?
