Shiny new pistons came in today. Rings are preinstalled.

Still waiting on the valves I ordered from rockauto to ship.

If the valves fall through, what is a good source for replacement valves?

Coming along nicely. Cooling nozzles installed, oil cooler, pump, and rifling primed with oil, and resealed the front cover with a new gasket and front main seal.
Had to replace the IP gear cover, apparently the one on this block got cracked at some point.

How many four letter words did you say while this was going on? LOL
Ya know, it wasn't actually that hard to do. I put the throw at bottom dead center, then used a magnet to slide the cooling nozzle into place, then used a magnet to get the bolt in and threaded. Torquing was easy with a 10" extension. I used blue lock-tite on them too.

Truck is back home. Holy cow there is so much shiny metal in there now. Years of caked oil and dirt, gone.

Luckily the turbo heads are okay. Gonna clean them up and use them instead.

Cleaned the turbo heads and pulled all the valves. Three broken springs, and she still ran. Shows you how dang reliable these engines are.

I ended up handing the heads to my other local idi enthusiast to lap the valves. I started one, and after 30 minutes I said this sücks and decided to pay someone to do it.

So project is back burnered until I get the heads back.

One head done. Bled the cam followers and barred it over to verify no piston/valve touching.

Funny, I thought I had ordered used ARP head studs, but instead they are by this brand called Gator. Haven't heard of 'em, but it's what CDD is selling now for the 7.3.
Torque spec in the manual only has a final torque of 125ftlbs... Nah. I went with Justin's torque with a final torque of 150ftlbs.

Let me get this straight, first engine had cracked pistons, oval cylinder, and broken valve springs and was still running goodish? Legend of the IDI continues.
