I'll definitely be following along for this journey.

All hail the Ford IDI :hail
Definitely not the ford starter. Cranks over strong still, but oh boy is it sparking like a grinding wheel now. Surprised it hasn't caught fire yet!

Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
This will fix it right up! Even if not, it sure can't hurt anything there!
@IDIBRONCO & @DougBoy66 (You love this stuff) Where you boys get this stuff?
I got couple secret recipes for rust removal saved in my puter notes but
as usual .....Where in the HECK did I put it to save???? LOL

As a side note one of them is MOLASSES.....soak it for 6 mo to a year! hahaha
I pulled a fast one on one my friends several yr ago, Was at his place one day, was looking & snooping round. He had pile of scrap steel pilled up to go scrap steel sales yd.
There was a really rusty 16" Crescent Wrench in there.

"Bill can I have that, I can fix it back to new" He said "Sure, what you gonn'a do?" I said "its a secret."

Next day I was back at his place. We were leaned up against my truck bed BS'n and suddenly i spotted a nearly new shinny 16" Crescent wrench I had & was kinda showing from under my other tools.
Devil started whispering in my ear.......soooooo I said "Bill remember that rusty Crescent wrench yesterday? And then I pointed at it.
He grabbed it, went to hollering & squawking and trying to find out what I did to fix it?????
I told him "It's a secret!!!" I never told him, just let him wonder!!

BTW I De-Rusted that rusty Crescent wrench soaking it in Molasses for nearly a yr......still rusty colored but works great!

Got any pictures? My dad is interested in a passenger door, bed and gate. He's asking if the paint code is YO.
@Nero what yr again is that truck? I got an '88 parts white truck. bed both doors, & I need go look about tailgate.
Pass door is sorta pushed in some (shame on me for not setting parking brake on my other rig & it rolled slightly along the side of it) but I think it'll push out.
And pumps...... I may have a few I been saving.....
BTW I'm getting old & wore out!! Be 20 in OCT......I think, can't count really good no mo!!!
You still got my phone #?

Yeah I still have it.
I'll run it by my old man and see what he wants to shake out. At the moment we are good on pumps, just sorting out the body and misc interior missing.

Back at it again.
So last Wednesday I pulled er back out, got her in the driveway where she'll spend the next who knows how many months.
Today I disconnected both drivelines and pulled the transfer case. Tcase fluid looked pristine. Fluid in transmission smells old, but doesn't look too bad.

Next sunny day, transmission is coming out. Already got the garage tidied up and an engine stand ready.

Spent some time on er last night and today. Transmission out and engine on stand and tore apart.

On another note. F***.

7 out of 8 are cracked. Not surprising since its got 320k on it and never intercooled or any other preventative measures taken like a pyro install...

Now I need to find some turbo pistons and rings, then probably just hone it and send it.

Edit; scratch that. Cylinder 7 is ovalled out. Popped the piston out and the oil ring was snapped in two. Huge lip near the deck where the top ring stops.

Anyone have a good suggested machine shop in the PNW? Would love to send to Justin, but $6,500 for a short block....

Hey Nero. I used Portland Engine Rebuilders in Aurora. Russ would use them for alot of stuff. I had them do a rebuild for me . I did turbo rods and pistons with n/a block, all balanced . Very happy with the work.

Nothing surprising with that. How's #8? 7 and 8 usually wear out the fastest/worst. from what I've seen, they are usually both wore between .020" and .030".

#8 is the only cylinder without a cracked piston, and it doesn't have the harsh lip that all the adjacent side cylinders have. Kid of weird that one bank looks like it ate dirt, but the other side has good hones.
