So after a year of running the FRB-13 on an idi. I have had ZERO issues with it.

I have it mounted on the frame rail with a spin on racor filter upstream and a pressure gauge in the engine compartment ahead of the factory fuel filter. It spends more time around 3-4 psi rather then 6-8 like advertised. Probably due to the fact that these things return so much fuel. I did temporarily restrict the return line and that did boost pressure up to the 6psi mark again at cruising and less under load. But I would rather not have the return restricted.

And I have recently been supplementing about 10% of my diesel with WMO. (run thru a centrifuge with absolute care) and I noticed that the FRB13 doesnt' really like it. The pressure drops down to 1psi under load.

So I just installed a Walbro Frb-22. It's rated up to 12psi. Real world psi on the idi is 6-9, down to 5 under WOT. but up to 9 when idling or coasting. So I will install a pressure regulator ahead of the factory fuel filter (not sure what brand yet and im open to suggestions); and restrict it to 6spi on the nose.

...just an update on the FRB front.

How's the Walbro FRB-22 going? I have one I was planning on putting on my 94 factory turbo 7.3 and was figuring I'd just run it without a regulator for now and check timing. I'd love a picture of your mounting setup as well, I was crawling under there and trying to eyeball where it would go best, I was thinking passenger frame rail. Directly from Walbro tech support it can be mounted horizontal if needed, though clearly it was designed for vertical mount given the filter/screen setup.

I too have been frustrated by modern parts quality. We have these old glorious American machines that built a reputation for reliability over decades undone by lack of a decent fuel pump. What are we even doing here?

I had an FRB-13. It lasted maybe six months.

I switched to a Bosch 99-03 PSD lift pump and a regulator, never looked back. Been over a year now.

And a second question, is the volume flow compatible with a dual tank setup with factory valve?
It should have plenty of volume since the PSDs also have a returning fuel system. They also are rated at more power than a IDI so that will bump up the volume too.

I have dual tanks and a manual fuel selector valve, my injection pump was a 90cc Moose tha I have since tampered with to maxed out. Seems to keep up just fine. As @IDIBRONCO said, the PSD system moves quite a bit of fuel in stock form.

I am still running my Walbro... still have not had to service it. From the first page of this discussion, I have been running it since 2019! And, I do recommend restricting or blocking the return from the top of the filter. I replaced mine with a bleed valve for filter changes. Definitely very reliable and worth every $. I have at least 200,000 km since 2019.
