Got a turbo ip off a friend but every orifice has been left open and in a shop environment so I have no idea what kind of crap has settled in it.

What would be a good way to purge the pump out without sending any crap into my injectors? Will spinning the pump by hand with an electric pump pushing fuel into the inlet be enough to purge the head and rotor assembly? Can this be done without swapping the ip onto the engine? If I can only do it on the engine then I’m going to grab 8 beer cans and put the lines into them and crank a bunch till I think it’s clean.

Any suggestions or ways you have done this would be appreciated.

I’m not trying to clean the outside and I don’t want to push any dirt further into the IP’s ports if I can help it.

I say this every time another "good used" i.p. Post pops up.

NO ONE Pulls a good ip off and shelves it.
But there are rare exceptions...

The guy I got it from buys core engines and he got ones of these with his bundle of engines. I have no idea if it is good or not and I’m not very fond of hooking it up to my injectors if there is a bunch of dirt sitting in the ports for the injector lines.

I’m guessing my best bet right now is to just put the IP on the engine with all the lines in containers and crank it over to purge the pump of any old fuel and any dirt that has made its way into the outlet ports.

There's your answer, right there.

Once you've run some fuel through it to flush out whatever crap there might be, I'd consider loading the fuel filter with ATF and crank just a little more, leaving it to sit overnight with the ATF in it. Treat it as though it has a stuck metering valve. ATF seems to have some pretty good cleaning properties. It might not be absolutely necessary, but you'll be right at a point where it would be very easy.

Why not use a drill to spin it and gravity feed fuel to it your not going to need a lot of speed just enough to move a few ounces of fuel through it and flush it then you could run any special blend of fuel and cleaner you want

You'd also need a 12V power source and a ground back to said power source. otherwise the FSS won't activate and no fuel will be pumped out of the lines.

Finally got a chance to work on the truck yesterday, pulled apart the transfer pump to find this...

Lucky enough it didn’t get into the transfer pump and destroy it, cleaned the rust up as best as I could, made sure the regulator moved freely and put it back together. The rest of the pump looked fine inside from what I could see so I stuck it on the truck and it runs pretty good, seams to have more power than my old IP to.
