I had also wanted to buy the other ZF5 that he has there. I talked to him on the phone last weekend and he wanted to keep the transfer case that's on it, but today, he wanted to keep the transmission too. Oh well. The big prize is an almost complete Factory Turbo engine that has a cylinder that's low on compression. He said that it was gradual and not catastrophic so that's good. I won't claim that it actually has Factory Turbo internals until I see them though. As seen by the serial number, the block, at least, is a Factory Turbo block. It has a clutch and flywheel on it. It sure looks to be a SMG so I have no idea what kind it is. I even got another Factory Turbo with it. he told me that it's trash because it ingested a lot of gust, but they can be rebuilt! I didn't think that it had a crossover pipe or down pipe, but they also materialized today.
For the record, both valve covers were there earlier. On the way home the wind was blowing strongly from the passenger's side. At one point, I saw something dark move in the rearview mirror. I saw it land in the ditch in the driver's side mirror. I turned around to find whatever it was, but didn't see it. All I saw was a shingle so I thought that someone had been messing with my truck while I was eating lunch or in Wal-Mart. I got home, went inside, came back outside to see the missing valve cover, and said "F!". I think that I actually saw it in the ditch, but thought that it was a clump of mud. It's over 1 1/2 hours away so it\s not really worth me driving back to try to find it. On the other hand, though, he said that he has a neighbor who has a 4X2, 6.9 powered truck that runs and he wants to sell it for not much money. I might have an excuse to go get that truck. I do know where the valve cover is within 1/2 mile.
To add to this, if I would have looked closely enough to see that the valve cover wasn't bolted down, I would have taken a couple of bolts out of the other one and put them in to hold it down.
