How do I change the yellow one? Is that a pull the tail housing off the tcase thing? Just never had to mess with one.

A google search and a video tells me I probably need to change that gear too. Might as well change the tail housing seal at the same time.

Yep tailhousing comes off for that one.

Yeah, just the tail. 4 bolts I think.

Just ordered both gears. 2 of each just in case.

The yellow gear might still eat the new red one if the teeth aren't meshing properly. But yeah, they don't cost much either way.

I think the tail housing has to come off the transfer case to change the drive gear. Not too big a deal, but you'll be draining the fluid in the process.

Are you sure it has to be drained? Seems like the fill plug is lower than the output shaft.

Its like a 30 min deal to swap the rear speedo gear. Super easy. No need to drain fluid. I used rtv to put housing back on. Worst part is pulling rear drive shaft.

I figure it won’t take long. Just have to wait on the parts.

Yep, easy to do if you have a bw1356 transfer case. Like was said hardest part is pulling the drive shaft. I'v never had to drain the oil. Just a funky clip holds it on to the output shaft too.

If you don't have a suction gun I suggest you get one for this job. I've changed my t-case fluid and it's not at all fun with a long slinky funnel.

Just cut the tube to the length you need. Can usually just squeeze the bottle to get the most of it in. Can get them lots of places. I think I bought the last one at Wally World.
