Another terrible loss..

I can’t believe I have to post this, but I just found out today that we lost Russ, AKA @typ4 this week.

According to his wife, he was at the coast with friends and collapsed, EMT’s were not able to save him.

His family is understandably distraught and requests privacy at this time.

The world is a poorer place without his kindness and knowledge but I believe he and Towcat are burning oil together.

Too may good people gone too soon. Losing Russ and Calvin is like losing the IDI library of Alexandria, and not to mention also a couple of nice guys. What ever will be, will be.

I was planning to give Russ a call in next few days about some parts and had some questions to ask also.
Always liked Russ, he was literally a library of knowledge on our IDI's! Also a VERY GREAT MAN!!!
Russ will be missed!!!!!!

Condolences to his family and friends. I did not know him personally but I messaged him with questions a few times and he was always quick to respond with great knowledge. A big loss to the IDI world for sure.

I know we don't all have the knowledge that some of these folks did, and most are busy with other things....but hopefully we can continue to fill these niche voids as time goes on, to keep our community thriving. As these lost guys would have wanted.
I will likely try to step up to a particular plate at some point, not sure what yet. But we gotta keep it all together.

The air-cooled VW community is similar, if not worse. The few remaining people with the very old knowledge are typically over 80 years old now. But it's also far more well documented than IDIs, so that makes up for it somewhat. But also I'm constantly seeing people saying incorrect things because they never looked into it and just assumed.

He was a great help to me and my IDI. Very sad to hear that he's gone.
It seemed that he really worked his butt off and was one of the good guys. This world needs many more of them.

Very sad news indeed. I feel privileged to have known Russ as I would put him in the truly wonderful people I could call a friend category. Hard to see really good folks leave this world too soon.
