Interesting, my son put a 7.3 fan clutch on his 6.0 with an adapter from bullet proof diesel, his 6.0 wiring/clutch failed and clutch was twice the cost of a new 7.3 clutch, his temps and mileage same, been 2 years and around 50k, he says he's ready for a new one again.

Those both use a potentiometer to control fan speed and have no way to control fan speed based on temperature, you could use it if you want a completely manual system but I would like something more on the adjustable automatic side.

I see in one of your replies that you want a continuous variable drive based on temperature. But I would be satisfied with two or 3 speeds, and this could be done with separate temperature switches activating 3 separate resistors taking the place of the potentiometer in the amazon pwm drives. I think it would work well enough in most cases and would "get er done".

It’s a 47/48mm nut from what I recall, my idi fan clutch wrench says 47mm but measures 48.xxmm and it fits on the 6.4L fan nut.

I was wondering if there was enough meat on the original hex to turn it down and put the metric threads on the OD. Looks like you have already figured that there is.

I have never turned threads on a lathe either, but I have seen it done before and this bushing may be a little tricky. Several ways to do it, but there may be a custom made jig involved in a few of the operations.

They say that adapter is only compatible with a 1997 7.3 clutch fan. Is that the same as the early fan clutches? Same temperature activation?

I plugged in my 89 at Autozone and the clutch was $135.99. I then plugged in a 1997 and it is $171.99

If you want to avoid using up a good clutch, I have a few bad ones here at the shop that you can have to experiement with.

i was thinking a bit and the best way i can see to make the adapter would be to find a piece of pipe that closely fits the size needed, put a length of it in the lathe, cut the inside and outside threads on an inch of the pipe, then cut the threaded piece off and repeat. you are then left with an adapter.

Has the idea of adding fluid to the stock fan clutch been shelved?
I was just searching for the Thread, without luck.
I remember someone selling one that comes on at 220 degrees. Are they still available?

So adding fluid makes it always locked up? Even adding a small amount?
