That is something worth investigating. I work with a team of engineers and programmers so it may be doable.

Would a 6.0psd turbo be a good donor vehicle?

Not all dmax had Vgt, but they are amazing performing turbos. If you had an electrical engineer and computer programming friend you might be able to make it work well on our trucks otherwise it’s a waste
Which didn't?
Nevermind. 04.5 up had it. Could of sworn my buddies lb7 did.
The 6.0 used the same turbo as one of the Duramax generations. The 6.0 had issues with the unison ring sticking, the Duramax didn't. They used a better material. So I would find it from a Duramax.
Also, as I already mentioned, the "engineering" has already been done. If you can copy/paste, do some electrical, you can do it.

It seems like you could use a simple throttle position sensor to deliver a signal to a small controller that would send voltage to open/close the turbo. Probably wouldn't work as effectively as the factory computer system that the newer trucks have but could work well enough

Except you would want more inputs to vary the veins. Using only throttle position would result in poor performance imo.

Exactly, it's a Variable Geometry Turbo not a Bininary Geometry Turbo. It is supposed to give incremental changes to the exhaust flow to allow best efficiency for a given fuel/air/load state. There were 2 or 3 legit, for sale, standalone conrollers when I looked a few months ago.

This would be really really cool if there was a blueprint for it. Mostly just talk though.

You buy the arduino, then program it.
I'm at work right now, and break is over. Lol
So I'll have to find the program link later.

Haha I know how they work in general... I was hoping for more specifics. :) When you get a chance, thanks .

compression ratio, volumetric efficiency, drive pressures pounds per square inch, blah blah blah.
just throw on whatever you have and run with it!!

just got .84 housings for this beast.

Well thats some damn fine information there sir. Im downloading and saving that in my records for later.

The components are not expensive at all. Picking up a salvaged 6.0 turbo would likely be fairly cheap as well.

Could this possibly be the best turbo setup for a 7.3idi? My Co worker who used to own several IDI vehicles is still in love with them and returns to work tomorrow. He is going to flip his **** when he sees this stuff.

What you’re not gonna even try to run the 1.1s? :joker:
Told you they wouldn’t spool :p

The only problem with a VGT is finding a place to physically install it under the hood of an IDI truck. The overall package is larger compared to a conventional turbo.

Making an electronic or even pressure controlled actuator is not too complicated. I keep chasing my tail on whether to try moving one of the batteries under the hood, or trying to remote mount the turbo under the bed.

Put it through the hood!
