They're fully electric, though. To me that makes a difference. A diesel is significantly more efficient than a gasoline engine. However, an electric motor is more efficient than a diesel. I like efficiency.

My biggest problem with Teslas is the range limitation. For me, a prerequisite for any vehicle is that it needs to be able to make it from the Bay Area to Los Angeles without any issue. I used to use that metric to determine if a vehicle was worth keeping based on its reliability (or lack thereof), but the Tesla falls under this because of its range and time to recharge. Get the recharge time (or battery swap time) down to the equivalent of a typical fuel-up and, money aside, I would be much more open to the idea. As it is, I'll stick with my TDI and my IDI ;Sweet

i handed him a 80,...
Is that like a three-dollar bill??...

.... i test drove it and fogged them out.
i wish i knew an exterminator.
I think you just became one....

This is why I have AAA+ . They'll tow up to 100 miles, up to four times a year. I still tip the driver, usu. Got VERY lucky one time, having to get one of the PSDs towed back from the cabin to Madison, clocked in at 100.6 miles. Dude didn't know how to try to charge for the extra fraction of a mile, so he just ignored it. AAA dispatched him from La Crosse, so he had a three-hour drive home in front of him, 10:00 at night during a snow squall three days before Xmas. He, uh, got a little holiday bonus.

Battery technology just isn't that advanced, frankly.
