Propane Injection Questions

Okay, I read Ziggy's article on how to do a propane injection, has anybody else done this to an IDI? I wanna do some more research on the subject and find out if there's better ways to control it like some sort of remote dash mounted gauge, switches, whatever. I'm looking at nitrous accessories now, and looking around. Does anybody else have some input on it? Has anybody built a motor specifically for running grill gas?

Here is a thread i started when i was looking into a setup but decided against it at least until i get a turbo and prob not after that. I decided against it because I went to the race track in town on an open day and watched some trucks run. I watched one stroker and one cummins burst into flames from propane. A lot of my family smokes so that went out the window.

But I agree with you for the most part, If I add propane, it'll be like a use-it-for-hills-and-in-moderation kinda thing. I just wondered if there were any comercial IDI setups, and if there were other ways to do it than Zigg's.

propane is a future plan of mine, so is water/methanol injection

I did mine all homemade, had help / advice from a local fellow who does propane conversions for taxi cabs. I have three safety features: two stages of regulators, engine oil pressure required to let the system operate, and a flashback arrestor on the supply line. Generally speaking it is turned on at almost wide open throttle by a micro switch but I also have two manual switches on the dash. One turns on the system as a master control and the other overides the throttle control. I also have two LED lites to monitor the system while I drive, one is to show the system is on and the other lites up when the propane is flowing. I do get better pulling power in the hills and better MPG's. I think the diesel fuel burns more complete. Biggest problem is there is a big variation in the fuel / propane mixture as you press on the go pedal when in manual mode something that I think the "kits" account for with some electronics.

I know that Darrin ran propane in Big Ed with a NA IDI and he is now, with the goat motor..... Hopefully he will chime in also..... Some of the discussions I have read, his comes on at high throttle conditions...... not sure the specifics though.....

I've read about quite a few IDI set ups over the years, and most have used either some kind of limit switch on the throttle, or multiple buttons for releasing the gas at different presures. I think the kits are nice, but it can be done cheaply and easily by the do it yourselfer.
