460 to 7.3 idi swap

Ive got an opportunity to buy a mint! 460 1993 CC dually. I have a spare 7.3 idiT and 7.3 trans so am I insane to swap them into the 460 truck? I really like the truck just not the idea of 8mpg

I did it, pretty easy but takes a bit of time, I went from a 87 RC to a 95 CC. Adapted the 460 dash harness to work with a 93 idi engine bay harness. Here’s my thread https://www.oilburners.net/threads/project-crewcab.79692/

If you look up top in the tech thread section, there is a tech thread that explains with careful drilling using the idi adapter as a template, you can re-drill a 460 trans to make it bolt up to a idi bell pattern.

I love the idea providing it's the ZF5 trans. The factory idiT is my favourite V8 ford diesel.

In no way at all are you insane for wanting to do this. I'd do it in a heartbeat myself!

I did it. Mileage went from 10 to 15. But it took a turbo to make it right.

Well I bought the truck. Leaving it stock and running for a while. It just runs too well to pull apart just yet

If you need engine mounts for the swap I have some on my parts trucks.

i second the idea of IDI swapping the EFI truck with issues.
leave the clean running truck alone until it starts having issues.

When I put the IDI in place of the 460, it appeared the chassis had been designed for the IDI, and adapters were added for the 460. So installing the IDI consisted of using the IDI mounts and discarding the 460 adapters.
