I think you'll be fine with stock internals for what you're trying to do. Upgraded cam is debateable. I don't have one, but I've heard they are best with a non turbo engine.

From what you're going to use the truck for, a build that I would do would be the following;
093 turbo (upgraded wheel is up to you)
Head studs
Comp springs
EGT gauge (probe as close to heads as possible)
Wastegate delete
3" down pipe
At least 3" exhaust
3 or 4 core radiator
Intercooler kit of your flavor
90cc pump
Stage 1 injectors

You should be pretty happy with that, it is similar to my build, and it moves my cclb dually with camper on it fully loaded like it's nothing.

I know Russ had a pdf for a kit, but it was still around $700ish, and you gotta "make" it work. I went the lazy route and bought a drop in kit.

I've never had anything with a turbo. So im still learning A LOT.
Honestly now after I've talked to some people on here. I'm thinking about leaving the stock internals, except for the cam, to save some money and spend it on an intercooler.
I'm nit trying to go crazy with it. It's going to be a welding rig/daily driver. So I'll have 2k-3k on the bed at most times plus pulling a trailer with steel. I just want to have enough ass to pull all of that around no problem cruising 70-75 mph. Thank you for the suggestions.
Do you think I should buy new stock internals or go with the ones that were in it?
I do not know the sources of parts for these old engines, but the word "new" in the automotive world lately can be a bad word. New parts seem to fail on a regular basis.

If the original stock parts are in good shape after being inspected, I would keep on running them. These engines are known for valve guide problems, so I would pay special attention in that area.

I figured if I went with a reputable brand i shouldn't have to worry too much, but you're right, why fix what ain't broke. It's pretty easy to find parts, if you look. I was thinking of going with new heads because I can't find anyone near me who does head work.

This is the turbo kit I've been looking at.

And I can get a 110cc pump from CDD for just $100 more than a 90cc pump. I think that's what I'm going to get. You have any suggestions for intercoolers?

What's your opinion on a v-banded intake manifold? Think it's worth the money?

Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
Oh so that's why you need to rebuild it. At least you should have a big enough building to work in now. :cheers:
Well @IDIBRONCO my 40x64 shop is up but I still got to pour that @amn slab!! Just been one thing after another been gettin in the way!!

And actually I really think what got my engine was that off brand thermostat that came out in 2 pieces when I finally pulled it. I think getting it hot & not being able to cool it down had much more to do with it than EGT's did.
Either way..............
I still drive her some to keep her limbered up till I get few other thing took care of.

The V band intake is neat, but its definitely dealers choice in my opinion. Id only consider it if I had problems with the intake boot popping off, but I don't.

You could go with the 110cc pump, but let me explain how the pumps work first;
When buying a bigger pump, the listed cc/stroke is maximum fueling allowed at max throttle. You will still have the same power and fueling curve at similar throttle positions as any other pump. Keep in mind, more fuel= more EGTs.

I was told by a few engine builders a 90cc pump is kind of max for stock internals, if wanted to go larger then the machined PSD rods are the way to go. So there is the line beteeen stock internals and upgrading.

I live in a big city with lots of shops who can do head work, but if you are able to be without your heads for a few months, send them to Justin at https://idiperformance.com/ he will do the cleaning, deck it, and put turbo valves with comp springs in it.

Mind you, he is a one man show, it may take him a while to get to it.

I think that covers all you asked.. If i missed anything let me know.
