If you're travelling around and some backyard mechanic in Texas replaces your fuel pump and uses that one, who is going to know or care? I would have no concern over running a "race only" pump.
I feel the same way. I wonder what makes it "closed course competition use only"?

More and more parts vendors are adding disclaimers similar to this. The EPA and CARB have been rattling their sabers, mostly due to idiots deleting the emissions equipment and blowing smoke in new trucks. Vendors are afraid of fines that could put them out of business so a better safe than sorry path is taken. In this case for no reason.

"...This solid state fuel pump can be used on: refrigeration trucks, marine generator sets, diesel filtration systems...."
I do love me some closed course refrigeration truck races.

"... and other diesel lift applications."

It's just weird that they need to sell an on-road legal one that seems to be identical to the "racing" Seachoice one, but costs more. Does it have some extra safety feature over the Seachoice? Stuff that looks the same on the outside isn't always the same inside.

I bought a "Seaflo" brand fresh water pump and accumulator tank for RV use because they are identical to "SHURflo" ones marketed for RV use, but cost less.

No one selling the straight Facet Dura-Lift pumps say that, only ones selling the SeaChoice versions do. Makes me think there is something physically different about the pump internally.

Boatid isn't fooling around... go click add to cart and they blast you with a huge legal disclaimer you must agree to saying you won't use it except for racing purposes.

For some odd reason, there is also the Seachoice/Facet 20331 which is identical to 40222 but it's marked as racing only, and that it's probably against the law to use even for casual off road use, much less on road. It's still made in USA but it's cheaper:

Could be an insurance thing for the mfg. Cheaper liability insurance if they exclude recreational boats. Fortunately for me I won't find out since they have a California shipping restriction.

But it's Facet... and they already make street legal pumps.

I could be way off base. I thought that was their marine pump. Car gets a fuel leak and you step out and roast some hotdogs. Happens on a boat and it gets real bad, real fast.

I don't understand the point you are trying to make. Seachoice is made by Facet and has the Facet logo but it costs less than the Facet pumps sold as non-marine.

The Seachoice 20331 even says right on the label "Facet 40222".

It's sold by sea choice. It's a rebrand. If there is a lawsuit, they would be named in it.

I have to deal with a half dozen business insurance policies every year. My own policy, I have to have some of my customers added to it in order to work for them. Another policy, the corp provides a product that our customers use to stay compliant with IRS and DOL regulations. Even though it is assumed our customers carry insurance, we carry our own E&O insurance because, Murica.

I looked a little. I don't see Sea Choice mentioning that competition disclaimer anywhere. More likely it is boatid pushing that disclaimer on you. You can see that disclaimer you posted mentions one of their trademarks.

I do know from my experience boating that the coast guard takes accidents more seriously than the police. Maybe that has something to do with it.

I agree. It's the same as the facet you are interested in and costs less money. I still wouldn't have any concern about putting it in my truck if I wanted a facet. Spend more for it at Amazon and you won't get the disclaimer. They even ship to California. LOL

After reading all the positive feedback on it in years past, I purchased a Facet 40222 shortly after buying my truck as a "preventative maintenance upgrade" from the mechanical pump...but I did not buy it recently enough to return it. Are the state of things with the decline in quality such that I should try to unload it one way or another and switch to something else like the Holley pump?

Some say it doesn't deliver enough fuel. If you are worried to about it, keep it as an emergency spare and get a Holley.

That seemed to come from guys with turbos from what I noticed at least, though I will admit I did triple check that they really did come with little 1/8" NPT ports. I would be curious about plumbing differences between people who seem to have no issues and the people experiencing starvation.

I've also seen several people mention that the Facets quit working in a short time or some that were bad right out of the box. Personally, even on a N/A truck, I wouldn't bother with a Facet at this point. I might if I was planning to use it as a transfer pump to pump fuel from one tank into the other. After saying that, I have to admit that I don't use one for a transfer pump. I'm using a Carter on the Blue Truck and have another one on hand for the Ex Wife.

I noticed on their website they spec the operating voltage range at 9-11.5V. I wonder if they did some cost cutting that reduced their over-voltage tolerance and are getting burnt up running at ~14V. D'oh, they didn't label units and I am guessing 9-11.5V is the operating pressure, not voltage..

My main motivation for running one was the whole failed diaphragm filling the engine with fuel thing, which is certainly not a good thing, but I guess now I have to wonder how common that really is.
