Overdo to get this build thread going, this is a project we got from @Mike Linger and @aggiediesel01 earlier this year for an engine build and some upgrades. The truck is a 91 F250 4x4, originally with a na 7.3, 5 speed and D50 front, Mike and Steven earlier this year had the truck repainted and swapped a Dana 60 in and brought it down to us for the rest of the work to get it driving. Previously he drove down his 93 IDIT work truck with over 300k on the clock for an engine exchange with a fresh engine, and pulled the IDIT for refreshing and swapping in the 91.
Currently we are going through the IDIT, and getting it ready for some upgrades. The block had very minimal bore taper and ring ridge despite the miles, but had a decent amount of sludge buildup with most of the oil squirters clogged and 41 thou ring gap on the top rings, it was due for some fresh parts. We stripped the block down and ran it through the system one, and cleaned out all the oil galleys and coolant ports.
Engine back on the stand, crank installed after a polish at the machine shop, new main bearings all within half a thou. Piston rings haven’t come in yet so after checking rod bearing clearances we dropped the shop trucks old oil pan on and went to painting.
While watching paint dry, pistons and rods got assembled after cleaning all the carbon out of the ring lands in the pistons and a polishing up the wrist pins. More tomorrow..
