Best practice is to stick the shop vacuum on discharge, onto the tail pipe and pump air up the exhaust valve.
Set each cylinder on open exhaust cycle and blow the carbon out...
Turn brush counter clockwise like unscrewing it..

I have an arms cleaning kit with some fairly big brass brushes, I'm gonna give it a shot.

Another option for keeping the sealing washers in place, put a dab of Vaseline on the washer, stick it to the injector, then it'll stay there as you install it.

Question on return lines, Moose Diesel is supplying the return line kit, do these kits generally include the grommet/gasket for the rear return line fitting or do I need to source that somewhere else?

No they do not include them. I'll bet that they can include some for an extra price if you ask. They are commonly called olives.

Ok, I may be able to find something similar in my stash. They look very similar to those used in a john deere 6068 fuel system if not the same.

Is that a problematic place for air intrusion or is it too far down the line to even worry about?

It can be. If it doesn't seal, then that can allow fuel to drain back to your tank which will let air into the system.
