Changing shocks on a D50?

Anything special I should know when changing my front shocks? From the looks of it I remove the tire and rim, unbolt the shock, and bolt the new one on. Put the tire and rim back on and I'm done. Sound right?

You dont even "need" to remove the tire

Cool. I want to check the ball joints too, so I'll go a head and pop the tire off.

Shocks are dead easy to change, Are you sure you got a dana 50? and not a Dana 44 the look the same but you can tell them apart, if it has big lockout hubs like the dana 60 has then its a 50, but if there smaller then its a 44

I think its easier to take the tire off, plus you can check the ball jointa and tie rod ends(as i know thats important!) and check the brakes and things

x2...leverage...jack the tire off the ground. grab the top and bottom and wiggle to check your ball joints. then side to side to check the tie rods.

True. I'll probably do that anyway, but I'll still take the tire off. More room for the impact in there that way

indeed. make sure you put the shock going the right way as well...SOME have an UP arrow or something to that affect on them.

Yes. What alien said. Make sure the shock is in the right way. BILSTINEs go in "backwards" of they way you would typically mount a shock
