Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows why IH changed the oil fill/injection pump cover design on the idi? I have one of each of these covers and trying to decide which style I want to use. I see the 7.3 has cast lugs on the back side but am unsure their purpose. was the 6.9 problematic?

A small thing I suppose but I enjoy the small details. Thanks!

I do not know of any problems with the 6.9 design, other than the fact that it is much slower to fill with cold oil, less than 50* or so. The 7.3 design is more open flowing, but I don’t like the angle it sits at. I prefer the 6.9 design myself.

I prefer the 6.9 design, If you use a funnel makes is easy.
The 7.3 being on an angle looks like easier to spill oil when filling.

What I use for a funnel is the top of a QT bottle cut off about 3 inches.
The threaded part fits right into the opening and locks in.
The older style bottles with the small cap is what works. See lots of
newer style QT bottles with large cap, that won`t work.
Looks like they are fazing out the small cap bottles, by what I see on
the shelves.
