Found this one while hunting for tray mods...
My kirkland batts have a 09/12 datcode.
Just got weak this year.
Still cranks up after sitting 3-4 days.

Bought 2 new Interstate group 65 from Costco this afternoon.
The one`s in it now are the same that we bought back in 9/10/19.
They have a 42 month warranty.

Today 9/10/23, exactly 4 years.
The new set, Interstate group 65 only have a 36 month warranty,
all the other spects are the same.
Although the Costco item# has changed. 850259 to 1624302.

$258.22 out the door.

The old one`s have given me problems the past 6 months or so, stick on the charger and good for a while.
Always starts like fully charged batteries.
I have a SW Volt gauge and always shows 14v charge.

I was going to replace them before winter anyway, this morning pushed me to get some when the engine was rrr click click and HF DVM showed 12.37V.
42 mo warranty and stretched it to 48

I will say, they held up really well through this super long cold winter we had here in western Nevada.
Maybe that was nail in the coffin for them.

As one poster said above, he replaces his when the full replacement warranty runs out...saves your starter.

I'm still using a pair of Walmart 65N I bought in December 2018. But, they don't get a ton of cranking, being in my motorhome that often sits for weeks, if not months, without being moved. I toss a battery tender on it now and then with both batteries connected if it's sitting a lot, or a full on battery charger if it gets lot of very short, slow drives; typical in winter going to the water fill/dump station at the LTVA. But even so, awesome batteries for the price. But they have jumped 40% in price in the past 10 months. And that's after jumping a previous 10% over a few years. I paid $90/each, priced $140 now.

Check the fuses in the shore power converter, most have a battery charge maintenance circuit.
The one in my old flattop 5er would sometimes, not allways, overcharge on occasion.

When I was at Costco buying the 65`s, I was looking on their shelves to see if they had any 31`s to see what the size difference is. Doesn`t seem they carry them.

Goat

group 65: 12 1/16 x 7 9/16 x 7 9/16
group 31: 13 x 6 13/16 x 9 7/16

So 31 is almost 1" longer, less than 1" thinner, and almost 2" taller.

31's fit in my truck for height, but I had to cut the inside lips of the battery trays to accommodate the extra length.

I was at Wally World yesterday to have some of my good loose tires
swapped for 2 worn out one`s.

While waiting for the guy to finish up with a customer, I was looking at their Batteries, and noticed 2 group 65`s.
650 CCA and 750 CCA. My group 65`s are 850 CCA.
So the group 65 is actually the battery size?

I get mine at Costco so always 850 CCA.
Any one asking for a group 65 at some retailer, make sure to check the CCA`s.

I don't know about now for sure, but Walmart used to have 65N (850 CCA) and 65S (750 CCA) both in the Maxx (3yr) line. But stores would only carry one or the other, never both at the same time. Maybe it was a regional temperature thing? They had I think 650 in the 2yr line too, regardless.

However last winter, I caught a Walmart selling Maxx 750 batteries when the rack tag claimed 850, so maybe they have just dumped 850 entirely. I saw reviews of customers complaining that they ordered the 850 online for pickup but was handed 750 so they demanded a refund, and got it since they hadn't left the store with the batteries yet.

Yes, The Group size is an identification of a particular battery. Length, width, height, and maybe post type/location.

All ford trucks have house Group 65 for aa really long time. I know our 83 f-150 did, my 03 6.0 Excursion does, as well as my 11 F-150…

Group 31 is what is normally used in a medium and heavy duty application….

My 91 Jetta used a Group 41

A Chevy Tracker I was around used a Group 26R

I had an 07 Infiniti QX56 and it used a Group 27F….

So you get the idea…. It’s a way to identify a battery… and get what fits.. Kinda think tire size….. You need a 235 75 R15. No matter the brand, you get a consistent-ish size..
