DOH, Sterling 10.25 axle vent snapped off

Finishing up the overhaul on the entire brake system, I was removing the rear hydraulic brake line and twisted off the axle vent bolt that also holds the line on the axle. I'd go to a yard, but I'm in the rust belt. It will be a lesson in frustration, I'd bet many will snap before I get one...

    Electric Vac Pump?

Anyone ever take their mechanical vac pump out and use an electric vac pump? I have a hydro booster, so I don't risk much by going electric. Will loosing a belt driven component like the vac pump free up load on the engine at all?

    Militec-1 in an IDI

Anyone using Militec-1 in their IDIs? I use this stuff extensively in firearms and it is top notch ;Sweet, the company is making some tall claims of improving auto performance by putting it in just about any fuel or lube on a vehicle. If it works as well as it does on weapons, then I think there...

Now I remember why I originally bought my IDI

Sat for 2 years without starting once. Decided to finish fixing it up but wanted to be sure it ran so I charged one of the two batteries up, burned GPs for 5 seconds, didn't even turn over for a full second and it fired up! :hail It gave me a woody, that's not weird is it? :D

    Hydroboost noise

Sorry for the flood of recent threads by me. Getting my 86 back in service after 2 years of distractions. Right before the truck sat, I installed a hydroboost from an 02 F250, including the pump. Works great, however when turning to lock or turning with hard brakes I get a squealing noise and...

Detroit TrueTrac in a 10.25 rear

Anyone running a TrueTrac in their Sterling? I'd like to get one, supposedly doesn't effect street performance or towing, and doesn't wear like an LS.

    Exhaust manifold removal

I have an 86 F250, she smells stinky when I push hard on the go pedal. Checked under the hood and confirmed a leak somewhere underneath the manifold down to the first flange. How hard is it to remove the pass side exhaust manifold after almost 25 years? Is this going to be a week long...

    Rear tank capacity

Been a while since I was last on here, my 6.9 project has sat for 2 years and I'm about to pick up where I left off. Has anyone installed one of the large capacity rear fuel tanks? Something like 45 gallons, way up there in size. I last seen it is advertised as gasoline only, is there a good...

    Brake caliper compatability

I found an insane deal on a pair of reman calipers, but they are for an 82-85 F250 super cab, I have an 86 reg cab. Will they fit and stop?

    2000-2004 F250 hydroboost unit install

Thought I'd let everyone know that the hydro units on 2000-04 (not certain on the years, mine was from an 02) F250SD will work relatively easily on our IDI's... Fab a bracket that gaps the unit from the firewall, I think it was 1.5". All I did was sacrifice my old vac unit to fab the bracket...

    86 F250 TTB hub locker

Acting funny, PO said it doesn't lock right away. The other side is just fine. I was replacing my rotors so I inspected everything and seen that the spline shaft has enough play in it to prevent the hub from locking without wiggling the shaft. I imagine it would lock for the PO after hitting...

    Power steering issues

Well, I am in the middle of a hydroboost conversion - I am replacing the pump as it is shot. Upon closer inspection, I realized I had a hillbilly fix... The PO fanagled a GM pump cookoo into the mix... Amazing really, held by one bolt - the belt tension kept the whole works braced against the...

    Lugnut headaches

Old lugnuts came off hard the entire way, is this normal on a 86 6.9? Cleaned up the threads with a bore brush, down to the shine Old nuts went on just as hard with new studs Cleaned up old studs down to the shine, same story with old nuts Chased all the threads on the old nuts...

PS pump for hydroboost on 86 F250

Picked up a hydro unit from an 02 super duty for 75 bucks, with MC. I can fab whatever to get the unit into the truck, but I am curious about the PS pump. Is the stock unit sufficient to push all that fluid? If there are issues, anything available to pull from a yard that is somewhat...

    Hydralic brake booster

Seen some info on owners swapping the vac booster to a hydraulic unit. I gotta replace the PS pump and the entire brake system needs work so I figured the timing is right for a swap. Unfortunately, there are no F450 and up trucks just sitting in the local yards. Can any of the hydro boosters...

    Motor vibration issues

All cylinders are firing, but motor shakes the whole truck when idle and parked. A little throttle smooths things out. The shake isn't bad, just annoying. Harmonic balancer out of whack? I can't find a single source for one online, I only know of one idi in the local yards. And just about the...

    Yet another issue pops up

Doesn't surprise me, while the mileage is low - the truck didn't see intensive maintenance for a while. So I pulled the truck into my garage so I don't freeze while doing the brakes later this year - started to run funny... First it started missing, okay I just replaced injectors so I figured...

RUH ROH! Oil on injector tips

Pulled all my injectors today, most were leaking... rear 2 cylinders had what appears to be oil on the tips. Any idea? Rings, valve seals, head gasket? CDR valve was cleaned out about 100 miles ago, appears to function right. I'd certainly be surprised if a ring is bad with only 136k. Can...

    Paint Job on an 86

Many of you may have seen or heard of the $50 paint job described here: http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=2331682&page=0&fpart=1&vc=1 The guy claims no primer is needed, but I would feel safer using some - leading me to my question. Are the body panels on an...

    AC12G testing

Got a set of 8 plus one of the AC12G glow plugs for the 5.7 GM diesels, tested them for quality. Test Details Ran each one on a charger set to 6 volts/6 amps for 10 minutes each, attempting to cook off any moisture that may cause swelling. Then ran the survivors at 12V/6 Amps for a minimum of...

Really cold starts? (down to -30F)

I need to be able to start my IDI down to -30F, without being plugged in. Severe winters by me, I need to be able to get the truck started after work (where I cannot plug in). I have changed the GP's to push button, I plan to go to a AC 12G (I will preburn all of them in so I know swelling...

    Uh, what's this part to?

Okay, my curiosity is peaking here... Bought a nice 86 F250 XLT Lariat - 4x4 C6 with 136k... Doing some much needed upkeep on the truck, I noticed the air cleaner dish has a black rubber hose coming off it. This hose has been cut off, and I can't for the life of me - find where it would have...
