Figured I'd ask you guys.
Air intrusion symptoms for a couple months. Start then die. Continue cranking for a while - finally start.
Then no start at all. Figured air intrusion, so added plumbers tape and pipe dope to my water separator bypass job (last thing I touched).
Wait 24 hours to cure. Try again.
No start. Crank 10 times for 10 seconds each. Nothing.
Crack 3 of the lines. Crank 10-20 times for 10 seconds each. Nothing at injectors.
Check pressure at fuel filter with shreader valve. Fuel streams out with some pressure.
Change fuel filter.
Repeat. 10-20 times for 10 seconds each. Nothing. A little dampness - but not what I"m used to seeing.
Starter was hot to the touch. Waited a couple minutes between each of the attempts, but all that cranking got the starter hot (hopefully I didn't kill it).
I only drive this truck a few times a year to haul stuff. Last time I know I drove it was Christmas eve to pull my kid's Toyota out of a big puddle. Was hard to start that night.
So I'm thinking injection pump -> BTW I checked for power when key is on at both terminals of injection pump. Had power. Checked it a couple times - just in case it stopped getting power.
So I'm thinking injection pump, but last one I bought (from Orielly) was 1K and it only lasted 7 years. Thinking I'll have the local diesel shop rebuild this one. They will probably do a better job, but probably cost more than 1K.
So before I spend that kind of money, am I missing anything?
Will sitting with the new low sulfur diesel kill injection pumps when they aren't used? (this is my best theory right now).
