Hello
I have pulled my injection pump from my 94 idit. To get it rebuilt.
Pretty sure it is original.

My thoughts are to use a local rebuilder as I do not want to deal with shipping from Canada to the U.S. and back again at this time.
I called him and he told me he had not done one of these Ford pumps in a few years but also said he still sees and rebuilds db2 pumps from agricultural tractors
He also does pumps for the tractor pulling crowd

Looking for input as to what questions I should ask him to help determine if I should use him.

I know classic diesel sleeves the advance piston with ceramic which I will ask him about.
I know R&D increases the governor speed by 500 rpm and am interested in people's opinions as to whether this is a good thing to do or not

The engine is the original turbo block and
I do not have plans to stud this engine at this time,
I would be mostly happy with stock to maybe a modest bump in performance
Thanks

All I know is, I asked a guy that does industrial and tractor pumps if he would rebuild mine, he said no. He said something about the on-road pumps have more stuff going on inside and he doesn't mess with them.

The first guy I had rebuild one for me had a good name locally. He works on ag equipment and some medium duty stuff. As far as I know, he's still in business. That pump only lasted about a year. I'm pretty sure that one of the injectors he rebuilt at the same time was leaking the entire time I was running the IP because one glow plug was always burned off on the tip. After that, I went to Conestoga (now Moose) Diesel and haven't gone back with a local. That was my experience. Hopefully yours will be better.

Calibration is the black/art/ science
Part.
Swapping parts is 1 thing, doing the Injection Calibration is the art.

Hey thanks but I am in central Canada. The closest border crossing is Port Huron Michigan about 3 hours from me and many many hours from Oregon.

Last time I ordered a part from the U.S.A the courier company wanted brokerage fees and service fees ont top that and the total price was just getting out of hand.

Idi bronco and Clb thankyou for your input.
the thought of spending money here to find that I may possibly recieve a inferior pump, that also may not last. And have to spend the money again. Is not a good one.

Unfortunately, most, if not all of us on here have made that mistake before. That's why we don't recommend anyone else make it. You do have a different situation than most of us since there's a border between you and the recommended rebuilders.

Didn’t once upon a time' someone talk about " import/export" type companies or agencies....
The ridiculous stuff @ the borders is just stupid.
Good luck o.p.

I tried a local reputable pump builder shortly after I got mine in 2017 and it lasted about a year, same with injectors. I travel a lot so this was in south TX before I knew of Classic diesel design. I'm from FL so also talked to many people here. Spent a lot of time and money not realizing it was the pump when it started to fail until it was not restarting when hot. By then I'd found CCD and been extremely happy since then. You'll find way more stories like mine then you will the other way around. Sorry I don't know otherwise. Have you called CCD to get their idea of how it would work? I bet you're not the only one in Canada that uses them? Hate to see you waste time and money on something that won't work even though anything can go wrong with anything no matter where it comes from!

Hello an update

I emailed a few of the rebuilders recognized by this site, about shipping to Canada.
I have received one reply so far and here is a part of the reply

"We have not shipped to Canada in months due to the Tariffs. We have no idea what to charge, and it changes all the time"
I believe they are referring to the core charge but have not clarified.

I will wait till the others reply before I make a decision.

But based on this first reply, I called all the rebuilders I could find within about 3 hours from me. I scratched off the list anyone who said they had not rebuilt one recently.

I did find one who is a stanadyne authorized rebuilder who said they still see about 3 or 4 a year, I discussed my concerns about rebuild quality that members of this forum have pointed out.
He did respond that he too had received at times pumps that had been recently rebuilt and had problems and one of the main problems he found was that the previous rebuilder did not have the proper honing machine to properly resize for the new advance piston but had resized it by lapping and not getting a good fit.
He also said he would only rebuild back to factory specs, so no mods for more power, which in my case is not a problem.
My conversations with him lead me to believe I would get a quality rebuild, but only time would tell for sure.

So if I hear more negative news from my other email inquiries, I will probably go with the above rebuilder

Chatham fuel injection
I was thinking I should wait to see how everything worked out before sharing their name but I have talked to someone else that spoke highly of them
