Here are the IP tools in the official kit. Before I got a kit I ground an obstruction wrench thinner and cut a section out to make a flare nut style wrench.
Thats a funky one. Its like an elongated obstruction wrench had a baby with an offset wrench.

Whats the big half moon hook doodad for? Is that to turn the IP and hold it in place while you tighten the nuts?

That hard to reach nut in on a stud coming out of the rear of the gear tower, clamping the IP in place when you time it. What I'm talking about is on the IP itself, on the forward facing section. You can see it in this picture. It's perfectly square, sticking out a bit.
Hi looking to adjust my IP. However my pump doesn’t have this 3/4” square part to rotate the pump.

Thoughts on how I can adjust? Maybe @Cubey i need this special tool you mentioned?

Thanks!

I think I need this bigger style wrench to grab the IP body, since I don’t have the 3/4” square tab like most do….

Do you have a link to this wrench? Thanks!

Some of the Injection pumps have the little square thing
on the front of the Pump for a 3/4" open end wrench to
rotate the Pump.

Some of the pumps do not have this square thingy.
My new pump does not have it.
Called Justin at R&D , and he said he uses a pry bar to
move it, tried that, and was OOOOK, and was able to move
it.
There is the Rotunda wrench to rotate it, a bit expensive.
right now 2 are on E-Bay $77 and $102.

If you are patient, one will come along a bit cheaper.

It`s not a tool we will use all that often, but when ya need it
is real handy.

But where does the hook attach to? With no dedicated mounting point I'm at a loss. I guess there's a seam on the underside? That's the only place I can see that hook getting to and being useful.

I have seen people use a turnbuckle to make the adjustment.

I am not 100% sure what they mount it to on the IP. I imagine a turnbuckle could be modified with a pin that slots into the top bolt location. The pin would not be long enough to go thru the flange on the IP. The other end of the turnbuckle could bolt to maybe one of the fuel filter mount bolts? Might be tricky getting the angle right but I dont see why it wouldnt work. That would give you a really fine and delicate adjustment while also holding the IP in place for tightening up the other two bolts.

Something as simple as. The pin is a standard clevis, although it could be turned to tightly fit the top flange hole in the IP, I just dont know exactly what size that hole is. Pin could be welded in, should do the job, just need to figure out where to mount the other end to to know how long it needs to be.

So there's like a ground-down spot on your IP where the square bit is supposed to be? Pics or it didn't happen...I call shenanigans. ;Poke LOL
I swear I found it like this!

No 3/4” square casting to grab. There is a notch under the top bolt on the casting that the Adjusting tool would grab. Can see it a bit better here. This is a “Champion Diesel” injection Pump.

Yes I found those tools on EBay, last night. A little expensive especially with my Canadian dollar… I found this Blue Point SP442 on EBay, Price is right. I wonder if the handle will even fit in the van.

Considering just making on from the images. Could trace this to get a vector. Make a few sizes, laser cut out of wood, test fit the right one, WATERJET the final one.

I have the Garratt pulse and Light meter tho! ($500 CAD later….)

Thanks for the tender!! Yea I was also thinking along the same lines, if I could find a spot to grab the IP. There’s a bolt on the back side that may work. No notch or hole on the front side from what I can see. How much leverage is needed when the IP is unbolted to move?

I feel like tracing this shape is my best bet.

When I was looking at the tool, was thinking the same thing.
If I had one, make a trace of the tool head, and have someone
cut out with a lazer, Acetylene torch set up, and knock out a
bunch. Cut a slot in a rod for the handle and weld it on.
Or a piece of flat bar.
Or cut out the heads, mail them out and let the end user weld
on his/her (gotta be politically correct here) own handle.
Or trace out the head on some stiff paper, and mail them out
and end user can make their own.

I saw the $20 one also last night. Is the head the same size
as the Rotunda tool?

Here is a couple YT Vids.

xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

This vid he is using the Ferrit Timing meter, (NLA) but shows
another Turn Buckle to speed up the engine.
I have the Ferrit and pretty simple tool.

xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

I have 3, 9/16" wrenches I bent and ground down to loosen
the 3 bolts, plus even bought the Rotunda one.
The bottom left one is the difficult one. (Pass side)
Some times it is left off or loose.

Do not start the engine with the pump loose. Tighten it first,
then start the engine and check to see where your timing is.
