Fuel pressure at idle.

It wiggles a little on a good rev but we will see how it does when it spools up.

So in other news, I have been chewing on the spare tire situation. I grabbed a tire that is the right size but on a dually rim.

And... what I was going to do will not work. I forgot about the spring hanger in the way. Time to back up and punt. I can build a carrier. I can put the winch in the dish of the wheel. Plenty of room. Problem then is I can’t get to the winch to raise and lower the tire which kinda defeats the purpose. I pondered ridiculous pulley systems and there was just no way. Talking to Rob the other night and I was really about to give up. Suddenly and it hits me. I may have the solution sitting in the garage. Tonight I extracted it.

It fits. Well now. There are new possibilities.

Stay tuned....

This may provoke some nasty replies however Chevrolet has or maybe still has a spare tire lowering system that raises and lowers the tire with a little gearbox & cable assembly. Pretty cool setup I became familiar with on pickups and S10s from the 90's.

I looked at those at one point. Inspired my original thought with the superduty winch.

I guess I've never seen the Ford or dodge setups.
I thought they all used the cable and gear setup. (Except the like 70/80's fords)
What did the brick and obs have?

The brick and obs used the same old ford set up roughly. The super duties went to a winch and cable arrangement. The Dodge and Chevy setup I believe had the winch out to the side somewhere rather than right in the middle. Super duty could do that because there is no fuel tank there after the OBS trucks.

I’d just use the old setup but I’m getting to old to bench press that tire up in there and get the do-dad threaded through. If you’ve ever had to mess with one, it’s always cold, raining, muddy and on fire or something. And usually it’s rusted enough the damn long rod that unthreads end up broken and you have no way to re-secure the carrier back up. LOL

If I can eliminate that issue fairly cheap and easy and get my bed space back, why not do it.

i can see a good advantage of being able to place the tire near the rear bumper and with the cable long enough you could just "pull" it into the truck. even less getting under and wrestling with it in mud/rain/cold situations.

Most of the newer trucks are that way. The cable will reach clear back to way behind the bumper. I couldn’t find a way to get the manual winch to work with the fuel tank in the way. So I improvised.

Little fine tuning to do and then take it all down to finish welds and cleaning it up.

I like it!!!! It's a "must do mod"! Are you using an exterior mount key switch to activate the winch or do you have a different idea to foil would-be thieves?

I looked for a key switch that I liked but I couldn’t find anything. The direction I’m leaning now is flip down license plate with plug behind it for the remote winch controller. I had to ditch the wireless. It was too coarse to control. I’ve been planning to put a heavy duty aux power tap in the back of the truck with a heavy relay in the overhead. I’ll probably do that and tap the relay for power. Then it won’t have power unless both the key is on and the switch is flipped in the cab. I don’t know what else to do short of chaining it. If someone wants it, they will take it. Just like anything else. Locks keep honest people honest. I may safety chain it though in case the cable would fail. Hate to see it go through someone’s windshield. It’s not so much that I mind getting on the ground. I just don’t know if I’m physically able to lift the damn thing laying on the ground with my bad shoulder. Hopefully I’ll get it fixed but I’m not optimistic. LOL

Still need to pull it all down and finish welds, drill a couple holes then prep and raptor line it. Have to repackage the electrical a bit as well.
