Anyone else turn their idle speed up for the winter? I have mine set about 900 rpms, zf5 so I don't have to worry about an in gear speed... seems to stay warmer, just wondering if I'm the only one lol

Depends on your location. I wouldn't bother for most weather. I'd probably just put a piece of calibrated winter cardboard in front of the radiator.

25 here this morning, I agree screw this stuff, but will get
up to the high 50`s today. Old Man Winter will be here soon.

With the old IP I had the idle turned down low, and disconnected
the fast idle thing. With the new IP Iam idling at a high idle, and
something internal keeps it high.

I don`t notice any difference between the high or low idle affecting the warm up. I agree with the Calibrated Card Board for a quicker
warm up. I have my new piece ready to install.

Myself I like to place a large piece of cardboard in front of the radiator to stem the air flow. Works fairly well for me in this mild winter weather we have in Texas. Around here it can get down to 28 degrees in the morning and 85 degrees in the evenings. Its pretty handy for us.

I don't bother. It's also harder on the clutch starting off at higher rpms, every time. Proper motrocraft thermostat and some warm up time with the fast idle solenoid does all we could ask for.

I guess I do it for when it does idle, it isn't prone to wet stack or whatever lol not really worried about making it warm up faster.. I have to hook up my fast idle thing, probably just going to do it to a switch so I can control it

My high idle is broken and I have idle set a little higher than spec but no issues in last 8 years. I can't see how the clutch would be affected since I always shift at higher RPM than idle, so?

With the high Idle, and a T-19 Trans and 3:55 Diff. with
stock 235/85/16 tires, as I remember with the GPS, in 1st gear I idle along at 8 mph.
Hooking up my Car Trailer at 8 mph, ya gotta play with the Clutch
so I don`t ram into it.
Or at Wally World backing out of a space, and with people always wanting walk behind you, or the impatient idiot that cannot wait till you do, and drives behind you, I have to be slipping the Clutch and be watching 6 places at once.
Iam usually trying to find a space where I can drive to the open space in front and then drive straight out.

Story of my life... people are dumb. :frustrate
I back into EVERY parking spot, or pull through and have to walk a little farther to the store. Big whoop. Sure beats looking around for a spot for 3 minutes and being "that guy". I back into every spot because of spatial awareness; you already know what's going on around you when you come to the spot. You don't when you're backing out. Simple.

As for the high idle, I kicked mine up about 10 years ago to avoid gear rollover. I changed it back once because I forgot why it was so high, then changed it back the next day after I heard that pinging. I don't know the RPM exactly, my tach isn't super accurate a low RPMs. Probably around 800 or so.
That has nothing to do with winter though, and I don't do extended idling so I don't worry about that.

Most accidents are caused backing up. It`s amazing watching how people drive in a parking lot like Costco, Wally World etc... People do not know how to back up, let alone go forward. Seem like the smaller the vehicle, the more difficult it is for them. I have been saying, they should take reverse out of all new cars.
Funny thing is, new vehicles have a back up camera.

Then we have the people that just bought their new big truck,
they are scary to be around. They have no idea of length or width.
If a straight cab, Extra cab, or a 4 door truck, need to drive according to the vehicle length.

I guess driving equipment for 37 years I have a different perspective on it.

LOL LOL Well I have the answer for you guys (boys & girls both)......
Couple yrs ago I was in my '90 Dually, minding my own business, driving very safely as if I was taking & passing a driving test!!!
But somehow I crowded another car. (Car had a young good looking little bout 18-20 yr old twit driving it)
After I swerved back into my lane she slowed down, started blowing her horn, screaming at me, kept flipping me off, calling me names I had NEVER heard before, (& I've heard & said probably everything.)
Anyway she followed me several blocks to WallyWorld, followed me round & round till I found a place & parked. She pulled up behind me. I got out & walked back, & then she REALLY SET IN ON ME!!!!
I stood there & just stood while she kept screaming & cussing. Finally she stopped to catch her breath. I then quietly ask her "Do you got insurance?" That set her off again, her hollering & screaming at me "Yes I do & I bet you don't!!!"....over & over.
Next time she stopped to breath I asked her "Do you got that separate clause on your insurance policy?"
She asked "What clause?" I responded....."That insurance policy clause for to cover OLD STUPID OLD FOLKS LIKE ME!!!!"
I then just turned & walked into WallyWorld! hahaha LOL LOL
