I'd bet that you'll be able to make it back home. Especially since you don't have a leak (or much of one) while it's running.

And of course it's always something u already have sitting at the house that goes wrong, wen ur nowhere near said house. Seems to always be the case. Next time ur headed north and get close to ft worth with not so much to do gimme a call. Usually keep a few cold ones in the fridge. And if I run out the stores about 5 min away!

Checked on it this morning and the balancer was in an ice cube, got some moisture and cold temps in the teens last night. Coolant still hasn’t dropped so I just ran with it. If I can avoid wrenching in these temps I’m gonna do it. Just gonna keep an eye on temps and water level. Thanks for all the help oilburners!

I don't understand why it happens however each year when the weather turns colder, my old 74 highboy will have a little coolant puddle between the intake & head. Does it every year and each year I swear I'm going to fix and never do. Anyway, is it possible you're experiencing something similar? Did your travels take you to a much colder environment?

It was about 30 degrees cooler than my normal climate this time of year. That definitely could have attributed to the issue, haven’t noticed any issues now I’m heading south

Just pulled into the shop. Truck drove just under 2k miles this week and has been flawless, got 21 mpg on this last leg of the journey! Making killer time passing everything in site, I’ll dig into the water leak issue sometime this week but convinced at this point it’s gotta be wp related. The truck has coolant in it but not near 50/50, just enough for my climate zone. The whole undercarriage of the truck was coated in ice from all the moisture from the day before, so I don’t think the chunk of ice was from the coolant leak completely. I love my IDIs, hopefully be giving the shop truck some attention soon, I think this water leak is just to spite from jealousy.

Haha yep, I’ve been running it with the least amount of coolant necessary to hopefully build up a good amount of crud in the cooling system. I’m doing this for an upcoming test with a coolant filter that should display the effectiveness of a coolant filter on a dirty cooling system.
