The Summit radiator arrived yesterday late afternoon.
Didn`t hear the Fedex truck drive in (gravel driveway)
my Wife said "OH there is Fedex" and the guy was shutting
the door and driving off.
Box was a little beat up, 3 of the big staples were ripped open,
there was one plastic strap going around the middle of the long end of the box. Cut strap, pulled loose the one staple and opened the box. They had those Foam filled bags on each corner to support it. One was off and down in the side of the box.
Then noticed on the other end of the box, there were 7 Staples and all were pulled loose. So if the plastic strap wasn`t there, the Radiator would have fallen out of the box.
Maybe Fedex put the strap around the box at one of the shipping points?
When I pulled it back from the Front Porch wall, it was banging back and forth in the box. Hope it isn`t damaged.
I only bought it to have for a spare If I ever need one.

The last few time Fedex has delivered, some times in a white van, other time in a Fedex Van, and they don`t speak English.
Also all the packages, small and Large, and all in a pile on the floor.

Sounds like FedEx. At least around here they are mostly/all? independent contractors, not FedEx employees. You never know what you're gonna get...and at least one of them needs to learn how to slow down in my neighborhood...

FedEx Sux! I get more damaged packages from FedEx than all other carriers combined. The local driver/s also refuse to put packages in the logical spot or behind our gate where a large sign indicates the packages should be put. Often times the package is on the edge of the driveway near the road so it looks like the driver literally just threw the box out the window as they drove past which on the one hand I can admire that level of not giving a sheet but on the other hand when it's my sheet I guess I do care.

FedEx Sux!
I wholeheartedly agree. Overall, I guess I'm lucky. I haven't had any extra damages from them than any other carrier. That means the total is practically zero. Because Rock Auto only ships with Fed Ex, at least to me, I'm not counting on getting all of the needed brake and steering parts that I need for my truck before this weekend. That means that I'll be doing the work next weekend when it's going to be quite a bit colder.-cuss

They sometimes can ship USPS but its not always an option.

But yes, my fedex has all the packages on the floor in the van and he just steps over and on them looking for the right one.. Ive been outside and helped him take boxes off, nice guy but I think its just the way they are trained and they operate. They just dont GAF lol

Hi in the Cascades, Nearly- Redmond,Oregon
Just be dumb and poor (now) like me and have the original recored for $1200
About 12-15 yr ago I had to leave town on a job for about a week. My radiator needed some work.....needed rodded & recored. I jury-rigged an old radiator into my "90 & left town on the job.
I sent Carol to local radiator shop up town with the original '90 radiator in the trunk of the car...(and she was sorta mad & a bit upset bout hauling the radiator in her nice clean car trunk) She did though and had it back for me to install back into the '90 when I got back home.
They charged a whopping $150 to soak, boil in big tank, rodded & recored my radiator!!!!

Bout 3-4 yr ago after I put that '94 Factory IDIT engine in there & still had my original '90 radiator in there I threw a serpentine belt & messed up 4 cores pretty bad.
Now the local radiator shop said they couldn't fix it, but for $1250 they could put a new core in using my original top & bottom tanks.

I came back home, pinched off those 4 cores & soldered them up & she still going A-OK!!!!!

I hate that we have become a throw away society like that, you cant hardly repair anything for almost the cost of new, or more in some cases!

I was in Reno yesterday, and stopped by Summit Racing .
Talked to the manager about how the radiator was shipped,
and asked him if maybe he or the head office could talk to
the company that packages and ships these things from Texas,
if maybe they could Gorilla proof them a little better.
Told him the plastic band around the middle was the only thing holding box together.
He said they all come this way. They receive them the same tore up way sometimes, and when they do, inspect and repackage them.
Told him the Radiator is still in the box the way I opened it, and
have not taken it out to inspect it. He said if I have a problem with it, bring it in and he will take care of me.
Told him I bought it to have on hand for my 86 6.9 IDI. Said
those are great engines, really likes them. His Grandfather has
one on the farm they use all the time moving hay around. very
dependable and just keep going.

I said this and then got this last week. In defense of Fed Ex (gag!), it wasn't entirely their fault. At least part, if not most of the blame goes to Rock Auto. This was too flimsy of a box to hold this much stuff. The fact that there was a brake rotor/hub combo for a Dana 50 inside this box with all of the other stuff was just too much. The box probably wouldn't have held up without the rotor/hub in it. Fed Ex did retape the box to try to get it to hold together, but it wasn't good enough. At least the only thing that was missing was the magnet that they send out with each order.

A bunch of storms are coming in this whole week, so
thought I better get this new radiator off the front
Porch. Dragged it out of the box and gave her a good
look over. Hardly a scratch on it. By the look of the
box, I knew it had to have bent fins or ???

It`s made in Mexico, and a 3 core. By the looks of the
lower tank where the tubes/fins are connected, they
could go 4 or even 5 core. Looks well made.
Now it`s in the dining room sitting along side the big 9
blade radiator fan I didn`t get installed yet.

My favorite are the boxes that look like that but the stuff inside is in perfect shape. Cause you're all disappointed thinking you'll have to do the return game...but somehow the goods inside are great.
My best story about that is when I ordered a surface plate on Amazon and I was home when the kid drove up to deliver it. I heard him open the back door, and then fool around a bit and SLAM something on the deck of the truck. He picked it up, and for God knows what reason, SLAM again.
Picked it up and delivered it to the house. -cuss
Outer box totally trashed, he'd dropped the darn thing twice that I knew about. It weighs a lot, 44lbs according to my review :joker:
Thankfully it was shipped in a pine box with foam on the inside and it was OK.

As for your deal, I feel like Rock Auto uses the thinnest cardboard possible for just about everything, now that you mention it. I don't do a lot of biz with them anymore, that's one reason why. It's mostly because I HATE returning stuff through the mail. I'd much rather be able to walk in and give it to someone. Amazon is next to that, where you can just give it to a UPS store person and walk away, no packaging needed. I loathe the post office, standing in line is the worst. -Playme

We bypass the Post Office and go to the UPS Store to ship stuff.
People are friendlier. Sometimes there is a line, but it`s moved along fairly fast. Another plus, they remember you.

First time I used them was the store in Carson City. I needed to ship a Head off a 78 Mercedes 240D to Dallas, Tx. I had no idea how to wrap it and get down there. Walked in and the guy looked like an old Biker, said sure no problem. Rolled it up in Bubble wrap and threw it in to a box. It arrived a few day later in TX. in good shape. It was actually the Head, Cam Shaft, Rockers and Valve Cover.
Picked this car up from a girl that had seized the engine for $300.
Something about Girls and Oil.:dunno

Before I knew about the UPS Store, I first thought about Fedex. Went into this Fedex place, and kind of like they didn`t have a clue, and sent me to another place, and they didn`t ship from there. One person said the UPS Store.
Iam really not impressed by Fedex.
