That seems to be the sweet spot for many reasons.
The main one for me is that pre-1995 is not subject to emissions testing if/when they start doing it in my county.
I've spent thou$and$ on emissions/evap/computer crap over the years on modern vehicles. They're killing the working man with these regulations.
I'm done.
I with you there.
The regulations are only going to get worse. They keep tightening down the screws on us with the older none computer stuff. One way they will get us out of the old dependable stuff is make fuel so expensive we can`t afford to drive them....or create artificial shortages of fuel...they have never done that before....OH Wait!!!! remember the peanut farmer back in the 70`s with the first fuel shortages, and 55 MPH speed limits?

With the problems with the Chip shortages, that could affect the whole fleet of vehicles currently being driven today, not just the shortages with the huge fleet of new stock that is in storage with all manufactures.

Saw this video last night, interesting to read all the comments.

I`ll just keep driving the 86, and have the 85 IDI as a back up. Guy down the road wants to sell me his 88 or 89 4 x 4 with C6 trans, not in too bad of shape, says he has 3K into it, and new tires. Like I need one more to add to the other 14 I have. 7 are MB Diesels from the 80`s.
Soon as I get Mama`s 80 240D back on the road I will be in good graces with her. It is her Baby.....well mine too.

Saw a very nice cream colored 240D yesterday. With the matching color hubcaps.

Here's my '87 280SE (grey market).

Beautiful car, a W126. 280 has the in line 6 cyl dual over head cam as I remember.
The 280 engine was in the W123, badged as a 280E.
Our 240 is sitting in the shop with the whole front end out of it, Have all new Lemforder German parts, and new front springs. Had all the suspension parts sand blasted, just need to paint them. Also has no Sun Roof, kind of a rare thing.
have 2 other 240`s w/o SR, and both owned by a girl that didn`t check the oil. One with a window in the block, and other with a siezed engine.

They are a simple, dependable car w/o all the complicated bells and whistles.
Kind of like our 86 F-250 6.9 4-spd T-19.

Sorry, but when I hear about a 240, 280, etc, I think of these. Sorry for the obscenity blocking part of the pictures.

I'd like my 1985 RX-7 GSL-SE back too. It got stolen while I was in a restaurant in Boston celebrating my wife's graduation from college. Found 3 weeks later stripped to the bone.
Any wonder why I live far from cities anymore? lol
Can any of you Z guys admit that this car is SO much nicer than any of the Z cars through 1985? lol

The Lincoln mark what ever it was back in 84, had the BMW Diesel engine for a couple years.

I have mentioned here before, I have a 82 Datsun 720 KC with the Nissan SD-22 Diesel engine. Bought it new in Oct. 81. Still have it, along with a 83 Nissan 720 with the Nissan SD-25 engine.
There was a guy down in Ceries, Ca. that was the Nissan Diesel importer for North America. Joe`s Service and Equipment co. (Jesco) Has since passed away and business sold off. He had every type of Diesel engine you could imagine.

He had a 280Z that he installed a Nissan SD-33 6 cyl, It looked factory he did such a great job with the Mod.
