SNAFU...

situation normal... all F'd up!

went to install the rockers today, and BAM, someone screwed up when they purchased head studs!
cannot tighten the rockers down without them hitting the studs.
I thought they looked long, I verified that today.

the shorter studs are the ones I ran on my cracked block.
these must be PSD studs. damn....

my question to the OB crew..... if I order the correct ones, and change them out 1 by 1, will this effect head gaskets?

if it makes you feel any better, it is OK'd by IH on the 6 oh no's to exchange the bolt to stud one at a time as long as the head gasket hasn't failed. you shouldn't have an issue with this one.

with a discussion with Justin over @ R&D, these are definitely 7.3 IDI studs.
but for some reason they will not work with this IDIT.
yes ive cleaned and prepped the holes correctly.
Justin has not had this issue before. ive never heard of this issue before.
I guess I have a nack of finding oddball ****, and not just on the IDI base block,,,,
ODD.

They are definitely from r&d as is the cam (should have been one tooth off) and the intake. I'll try to find my receipt for them. They were never installed or test fitted.

I replaced head bolts with studs one at a time without removing the head. Its a gamble - not the right way to do things - but so far so good for me.

on a previously ran engine, yes its a gamble.
I was hesitant on this myself, but with the gaskets being fresh and never used, just squished, im pretty confident they will be just fine.

I wouldnt give it a second thought.

In other news my studs look exactly like your pic with the rockers. Pry got 3k miles on the studs

if yours looked like mine, you wouldn't have gotten far, I couldn't bolt the rockers down.

the correct studs finally came in today.
I really wanted this project done already, but as a wise man once said,
"We live to throw wrenches into your life."

hope to get on this and get the engine on the run stand on Friday.
ive got the hydroboost and pedals installed, and the dash hung ready to be installed.
