Ok, heres the deal. My IP was leaking diesel into crankcase, Had to do somethin fast. PMed mel about baby moose, knowing that was the way to go.
Did not have a core, and could not have truck down for long. Mel was willing to work with me on the issue which I really apreciate, unfortunatly I did not have the spare cash to proceed.:backoff So what I decided to do was get a reman from pensicola diesel to get me by, then I would also have a spare running pump to get moosed in the future. So anyway to make long story short, put pump on yesterday, static timed and primed acording to article in tech tips. I also replaced filter with new one. Yesterday test drove about 2.5 to 3 miles and not a problem. Ran similar to what it did before with a little less response out of the hole.(did not turn up fuel as to not void waranty) Then today I get to work and pop the hood just cause im parinoid, and my valley pan is wet. No big deal huh, Probly a line loose or something. So at lunch time I baby powder the hell out of valley pan and when I got to work (about a mile from my house) I pop hood again. No rabbit tracks, Just a total wash job, all powder is gone.-cuss I fear the fuel is leaking from weep hole. Has anyone had this experience? Will look into more tommorow, hope im missing something stupid. Any body have any ideas what else could be the problem. BTW it doesnt seem to leak at idle when i can watch, only when accelerating down the road. Ive watched at idle for quiet a while, and no drips, runs, or sprays. I get down the road and VP is pooled in back. Any help apreciated:hail:hail

That's kinda strange that it doesn't leak when its idling but does when you accelerate. I wonder if there's some sort of accelerator pump in these with an oring or gasket that could have been cut? I don't know much about the actual workings of these pumps.

Its got me baffled, cause im almost certain the weep hole is used to extract fuel from the pilot tube, if the seals are going bad. (which in turn keeps the fuel somewhat out of the oil) And the seals inside pilot tube are two cup shaped seals, an if theyre bad, youd think it would leak at idle. Im not certain thats just my assesment:dunno

So the leak now is different than before, correct?

Not sure yet, will take a tank of fuel or so to tell if fuel is getting in the oil.
The remaned pump has the weep hole, my original did not, so all fuel ended up in the oil in short order. With weep hole, Im not sure how many tanks it will take to determine. Anyway, I guess the leak is similar to before, just the weep hole being the only difference:dunno

On the drivers side ofhe pump there is an arm that pushes on an ternal piston. That seal culd be bad. Also thback of the pumphead has a specialgasket that has leakedbefore. I had ne do that and no way could I see it even with a mirror and flashlite. Mel helped me out on that. Are all your line clamps reinstalled in there locations. Thats 2on each side of the motor... If not you have broken a hard line and its really hard to "see" the leak sometimes. No, you can't repair them for very long. Usuallythey break right at the caps so it impossible to fit.

try to rev it up a little while its sitting there under hoood..see if that causes some fuel to come out. how old are caps and return lines? its gotta be something at injector.. new pump same problem eliminates that.. at idle these motors dont use alot of fuel..which is probably why you arent seeing anything at idle.

That's what I was trying to determine, if with the new pump it was the same problem or different.

Could there be a restriction in the return line somewhere? Thinking this might cause the seal to pop releasing fuel pressure when the engine is under moderate or high load.

As far as I know the places where you can get high volume leaks is from the shaft seals going bad, the soft return from the leakoff tees to the hard line nipple that goes to the fuel tanks, and the hard fuel line from the fuel filter to IP. This one gets my vote either that or the hard return. It's very easy not to get the fitting at the back of the pump tight enough and the donut rubber gasket is easy to cut or have small leaks in it. Personally I'd consider replacing it with a hydraulic hose, if you can determine that is your problem. The factory part is just not a very good design. A member here made mine and it has held up great. I haven't see tractorman86 for awhile and I'm not sure he's still here and still provides this service.

Did You replace the IP fuel inlet O-Ring, and fuel line sleaves?

Also, the IP will not leak fuel into the crankcase.

Another idea you could try is to see if you can get a sheet of cardboard down under the pump and lines. The cardboard will balloon where the leak is coming from directly, and the thickness will help keep the top above the fuel level. You've obviously got one heck of a lot of fuel coming out somewhere. I would think it should be fairly obvious at that rate. You may just need to run the engine at 1500-2000 RPM in the driveway. Take the fan off to reduce scatter.

cardboard huh, didnt think of that one. Will do that today. Its strange cause I know its a pretty rapid leak, im just not seeing it. Maybe better luck today.cookoo
