Need input from Rally folks..

Just wanting to gauge intrest in seeing/touring Mammoth Cave? It is 35.5 miles from the campground (24.5 of those are highway miles). It will take about 2 hours to do a tour (the historic tour). It is a 2 mile walk. There are 440 steps/stairs, including up 138 at Mammoth Dome. The cost about $12.00 per adult and $8.00 for "youth" (6-12 years old).

Here's a list of stuff YOU CANNOT TAKE IN THE CAVE:
• Camera Bags and Tripods
• Strollers
• Luggage (suitcases, duffel bags, etc.)
• Backpacks
• Bags of any type (including purses and diaper bags).

We were planning on doing this on Sunday am with the show and shine, pot luck/awards, and chinesse grab bag to follow.

If you guys are real thrilled about going on a cave tour and would rather do the show and shine and other activites earlier let me know. If we skip the Cave we will save some time to for DYNO PREP for TS the next am. As I'm sure everyone wants to get a few things squared away before we get on the rollers.

Just let me know you thoughts/ideas.

And by the way, the BOOB site is a little weird. The Yuku boards are getting an update or something, and it's been hard to get onto the site and to brouse around there as well.

i was wondering why it is that you even have that website in use? isn't it easier to keep everyone here?

i would rather have prep time for the dyno the next day so i can plan what i want to do while im strapped on the rollers. plus i've already been to and thru mammoth cave(is a cool site if you haven't seen it before). just my $.02

We enjoyed the cave tour last time. It's good exercise, and a nice cool thing to do on a hot day. I'd do it again.

As for the BOOB, it is for events only, and a neutral ground for anyone who is interested in getting together but is not necesarily from here. Plus it serves as a lifeboat for if or when this ship sinks, or takes on water for a while, as has happened a time or two. Anybody who works in I.T. knows you need some redundancy, and you never put all your eggs in one basket.

The boob site is cumbersome at best, so I steer clear of it as much as I can. Oh, and I do work some in IT and have a Master's in IT/MIS as well, so don't beat me up too hard!

I think the caves would be cool. I won't have my truck there, so prepping is not an issue, and since I'm unsure of my attendance, I won't vote. I still have no idea if I'll make it or not, I hate to be away from my family on the 4th., and the ongoing custody issues, etc. If I make it, it might be for a day or two or more than a week, don't know. Will prolly do a hotel nearby if we come.

The BOOB is a get place to "fall back on" if you can't find what you need know about this or other IDI events.

My favorite feature is the "Brotherhood Contact List." If you are traveling and have an issue (IDI or not) you can find a BOOB member from every state and have a phone number to call for help!

I print out a list of guys and numbers for the states I'm traveling through, just in case I need help along the way.

Hey Heath, I appreciate you putting this out there for discussion.

IMHO One thing that makes a good Rally is enough Down Time. Time to just hang out and get to know everyone, work on our smelly noisy trucks, and have a chance to exchange lies, food, and beverages.

With the Rally Schedule as it is, there is an event Friday, (Historic Railway Park) 2 Events on Saturday (Corvette Museum, and Drag Racing) 2 Events on Sunday (Mammoth Caves, Show and Shine). That makes for a real busy 3 days, and that does not mention the Monday Dyno Runs, that I am very Bummed that I have to miss!

Another reason is cost, Every time a family has to turn the key to the truck and head out on an event it will probably cost $50.00 to buy tickets, food, and Fuel. With today's economy I an pretty sure that there a bunch of us that are doing this trip on a budget and will want to cut cost down.

My opinion for deleting the Mammoth caves and bumping up the Show and Shine earlier may be a little bias, and for selfish reasons, cause if the Show and Shine is done later in the afternoon we will have to miss it. We have to leave early afternoon to make it home at a decent hour so Lori and I can get the kids ready to go to Mexico on Tuesday. Can you put a truck in the Show and Shine with a 5th wheel Camper hooked up to it,..?

Touring the caves would be cool, but knowing my 2 little ones, it may be a handful for us.

We're going to be ones on a tight budget, sigh again, this year as well since Karen's job has been in limbo here lately being auto industry related.

I do enjoy the down time just hanging with the group shooting the bull and helping pull a wrench or two. Tis the stories and friendships that make it all worth the travel.

Well Ron.... last year I went white water rafting. What did YOU do? Bet you wished you were out getting wet.

I would have to say though, that I prefer the show and shine to take place on a day, when I have a free morning to prep.
