Low price source for a CDR?

My turbo came with a CDR on the driver's side valve cover. I think it has failed as I have a bit of oil in the snail shell coupling tube for my turbo. I was hoping to replace it, but the only place I can find it so far is the stealership and they want like 90.00 for it. Anyone have a good cheap source for one?

Best price to me was $71.32 from my Ford stealership, IHC had them cheaper, but they charge shipping $59.00 + $15.00 shipping. A wash either way after taxes.

what purpose does these serve? as in do we really need it or is it just one of those extra emissions part?

C.D.R. (Crankcase Depression Regulator) VALVE - A valve used to prevent excess pressure from building in an engine crankcase that could cause oil leakage past engine seals. Used in engine ventilation systems on diesel engines.

I have been doing a Crankcase Evacuation System on all our trucks lately, havent done all of them yet but have it on a few and so far its worked great.
But if you want a cheaper place for the CDR, go to your local International Harvester dealer, they are like $55 there.

There is a cheaper and more permanent solution, install a rdt (Road Draft Tube) and be done with it. I think there is an article on how to make one or at least a lot of threads talking about it.

You are going to get oil in there even with a new one. I vote for the rdt or nipple in the downpipe. These engines have a lot of air movement in the crankcase and carry lots of oil vapor with it. There is no way to keep it clean without a settling can or some such device.

Yup, thats exactly what my evac systems are that i talk about. I run the RDT from the CDR valve on the valve cover, down into a check valve on a fitting going into the exhaust stream at the bottom of the down pipe.
Yea you get a smog haze rolling out the exhaust pipe at idle, but its better than it just coming out from under the truck. And its much better for your turbo and engine to not have that oil residue running through it.

I smoke enough as it is running 100% wmo - no need to add to it. If I lived in a rural area I wouldn't care that much, but I get to sit at lights with people and would rather not bother folks. As it is the folks on the passenger side always get smoked out when I hit the accelerator at a light.


We'll see what the new one does. If it doesn't solve the issue then a rdt might be in my future.

WHOA!!! thats insane! I paid around $40 canadian last time I bought one at my local dealer. Maybe they hiked the prices in the last few weeks?

How much oil are we talking about in the intake? The truth is that there will always be oil mist getting in and over time it can make things look worse that they really are. Every diesel that has crank case emissions vented to the intake (required by law generally) is going to have oil in the intake. Its just a fact of life. Its not anything to worry about unless you are noticing high oil consumption and even then, sometimes all you need is to clean out the CDR by soaking it in gas for a little while.

My truck ate oil mist through the CDR for all its life and the only reason I had to rebiuld it was bad glow plugs damaging one of the pistons. Turbo seems to be fine as well and there no telling how many miles it had before I bought it.

yeah I read an article that said to dunk it in gas for an hour, then dry it out, then use your mouth to put pressure on the valve cover side to make sure you hear a click, then you know it's operational.

My truck is now registered as a classic vehicle and consequently will never do an emmisions test again...

You got it registered as a classic even with a turbo???

Here the vehicle has to be bone stock for that to happen.

When I registered it it was NA - but I don't think anyone looked under the hood
