But on a happier note.
My conversations with Chatham fuel injection leads me to believe I will be getting a quality rebuild from them.
But only back to stock ford settings
This definitely sounds like the way to go right now. You might end up being a hero to fellow Canadians if you have found a good in-country rebuilder. At least it's easy enough to turn your fuel up if you want to, after the warranty's past of course.

Nothing wrong with stock is it? You can turn the pump up yourself a little bit if you want, it's not hard to do. Your engine will last a long long time near stock.

You are correct.
I was bringing attention to this, for the people who want the ability to make bigger power gains.
That this company does not do that.

You also would not get the improved fueling curves that some of the rebuilders talk about even on their regular or stock size cc pumps

The one time I have messed with this, a guy I worked with had a stock 94 idi and had the pump rebuilt. He said the rebuilder told him he had "turned it up". When he was pulling his boat over the mountain it would start blowing a lot of black smoke.

I found a article a guy had written on the internet on how to adjust the fuel. I turned it down two flats and no more black smoke. But he said that the next time he pulled the mountain, it started losing speed and the cruise control kicked out. He dropped it off again, and I turned it back up one flat on the allen wrench. He said that was perfect, it held speed going up the mountain pulling his boat. He was a big fisherman.

I thought I would add an update on my injection pump.

As you know I gave up trying to send my pump as a core into the USA because at that time nobody could predict what amount of tariff would be applied to it. And after calling around I found a shop that I felt had the experience to do a proper rebuild

When I brought it into Chatham fuel injection the owner recognized it as the last iteration of the ford idi pumps. Since mine is a 1994 it showed he knew something about these pumps. Made me have more confidence in this shop. He told me he should have all the required parts in stock.

When I picked it up I asked him what shape the pump had been in. He then told me that while he stocked oversize advance pistons to .006 he had to special order a .010 oversize piston to repair that bore, and the cam ring had been very well-worn.
I also asked him what he thought about the lubricity of today's diesel fuel and whether I should be using an additive.
He told me that filtration was more important than an additive. Although there was nothing wrong with using an additive also.

So i installed the pump along with new r&d injectors. Thankfully r&d did not need cores. And took the truck for a 5-mile run today to see how it ran with the new parts.

With the old pump which was timed to 6 btdc it would take about 15 seconds to reach 60 mph.
Today it only took about 10 seconds. Big improvement.

I do need to check the timing, which I know I should have done first, but when I got the pump primed and running I could not resist going for the ride.

Now I can not predict the long term reliability of this pump, That will only take time. But my impression is this company knows these pumps and does a quality"stock" rebuild. If you are looking for more performance they do not do that.

Hey @miked how has the injection pump been so far? I am Local to these guys and just brought my truck down from Alberta after finishing up work... How much did they charge you? Might take a ride over tomorrow as I am in town for a couple weeks.

Hi
Pump is working good so far
The advance bore was badly worn and they had to source a .010 oversize piston as they did not stock one that large.
That piston was expensive, it added a approximately 300 extra to my bill.
Total cost with taxes was about 1800 dollars.
They will also give you a quote after disassembly if that is what you would like.

Good to know you found a local rebuilder up N in Canada. I hope the rebuild runs like a top for you for miles and years to come.
