I finally got a new steering column installed tonight. The old one was worn out and the ignition switch wouldn't start the truck.

Anyway, the new one worked fine, but I couldn't get the key to turn back off. So I forced it and now it's screwed up. It won't turn on or start. It just turns a couple revolutions each way.

Is there anyway to fix just the switch. Or am I looking for another column?

To remove and replace the cylinder
This might work, then again, might not.
Will it turn to the on position?
If so, unhook the batteries. Take the chrome or plastic cover off of the switch so the cylinder is exposed.
Turn to the on position. Stick a straightened paper clip in little pinhole. Pull on the key. Cylinder should pull out.

on edit: FWIW I had one so buggered up I had to drill the cylinder out. Even at that all I had to do was get a new one at NAPA and I was good to go.
