Scotty,
if it helps any, housing here in NC is a buyers market and you can get alot for your money. and a truck like you have cost more here, so the wife should let you spend the money to fix the truck to keep it on the road!! :Sly

I can vouch for that bro. I look at the real estate magazines they keep by the crapper door in the truck stops. Housing in the Tarheel in EXTREMELY reasonable. Example: I paid 359,000 for a 4bedroom, 2.5 bath, unfinished basement, 3car detached garage on a little over an acre in MD. In NC the same house is about 189,000 depending on where in the state. It ain't like cali. Despite what we talked about............read my sig again & again & again. This could work. Pick up the parts along the way. Find me somewhere to park an 18 wheelernear the house & I'll spend a weekend or whatever to lend a hand. Geez, I practically live down there anyway.

Okay guys, this is the deal. I will be moving states, from California to NC, within a month or two at the LATEST. I have FOUR vehicles, a 77 CJ5, 1998 VW Passat, 2005 Jeep Rubicon and the Truck. Already been house hunting (got a real estate type) and 160K is about the amount that I could swing for a house. I need to think down the herd. Cannot move all the vehicles and three are two many, two is manageable and what I would be reimbursed for, but three is too much. Me and the wife have decided the truck/old Jeep must go. We banged out numbers and tryed to make keeping the the truck work, but no matter how you cut it, the truck is going to take money out of my pocket right now, when I need all the money I can with buying a new pad. I have tried to make imaginary things happen with numbers, but they do not fly right now. I am the only member of the house that is working, and a E6 paycheck is not huge by any means, so we need to clean up excess as much as we can if we want to get into a nice home. I really appreciate everybodys help and support, god knows I would like to do it, but money in my pocket will go alot further than taking it out. You guys have been great, but you have to know when to stop. The wife/parents, have been trying to drive it into my thick head. If I wouldn't have put 2500 in headgaskets, this would not be an issue, but such as life, I did, and I still have a truck I cannot use. I know it hard to do, GOD I know it is hard to give up on it, I have to do it for the better of the family right now. Scotty

All of us understand, Scotty. We know how much you hate to give it up because we all feel the same way about our rigs. But, when it comes down to brass tacks, sometimes you don't have many options. When you get settled perhaps you can get to looking for another and, who knows, better truck. You might luck into a newer rig that has what you want and you'll be better off. I know when one door gets shut, God often opens an even better door down the road. One thing to keep in mind is it's not near as much fun to snuggle up to the truck at night than it is the little women!!  ;Sweet Good luck with the move. If you were taking I-90 east through northern Idaho I'd be sure to have you stop and offer any help I could but I'm sure you'll be WAY south of us here.

Thanks, I know you guys totally understand and are trying to guilt me out of giving it up, but, "somethings gotta give".. There will be another truck sometime after I deploy the next time overseas..

Actually, one of my best friends lives in McCall, so who knows, I may make it through your area. He may accompany me on my trip East. good guy, he is an Outfitter up North. Scotty

McCall is quite a ways south, yet. About a 5-6 hour drive I think. Idaho is a big state! Lots of good hunting and fishing!!!! ;Sweet Just about everyone I know around here has, uses or carrys a gun... legally of course. Idaho is one of the states a law-abiding citizen can walk down the street with a gun on their hip and nobody can do a thing about it. Now that's part of what America's about! If you do make it this way sometime, let me know. I plan on retiring right where I'm at!

Godspeed on your move, Scotty. Got to be hard to let your truck go--there'll be another out there for you--but you and your partner have to set your priorities. "Adapt and Overcome"

If you find you need a hand north of Atlanta as you herd your way east, give a shout. ;Really

Scotty, sad to hear about this...but you have to do what you have to do, right?

Any chance you have the time or inclination to part it out? You'll probably get more $$ that way, unless you have a buyer lined up...

Good luck!!!

Scotty, I am a little behind here on your situation, and didn't read all of the post, just want to find out what is going on with the truck.

I have a motor that I will sell you for $450.00. You are probablly beyond that decision, however I thought I would throw it out to you.

If you are selling it, I would be interested because I have a motor,..duh...
Just need to arrange shipping etc.

You could also get good money out of it by E-Bay if you have the time to mess with it.

Just hate to see an awesome truck like yours get away! ;Sweet

Let me know what is the latest.
Thanks,
Darrin

Around here, you'd be lucky to get a single-wide for $160K...without the land...

There's no love lost between me and the Peoples Republic either...I have every intention of getting outta Dodge as soon as I graduate.

But, there's no way I could handle the Deep South either...don't think I could take the climate or the culture. Besides, I'm too much of a city boy to be able to easily adjust to rural life...

No firm idea where I'll go after graduating, but with the type of work I want to do, I'll probably wind up in the DC area unless I get sent abroad, assuming I can get into it...
