So do you think that is a pushrod length problem or a cam grind problem? Assuming that the base circle is the same the factors in having a zero lash condition in my mind are valve stem length, pushrod length, lifter height or cam lobe height right? You in theory eliminated rocker arm variables. Looks like you are going for the cam variable next.

Well he had one of mine. Dont know if its in this engine .
I seriously doubt its the cam. What is hot oil pressure? Standard lifter preload needs to be 20 to 30 thou. Min.
Most hyd lifter travel is near .120, optimum preload is in the middle of the top half of travel, BUT if lifters are worn/sub par/ low oil pressure/ too stiff a spring, just tossing things out there.
Are the lifters new or used?

bran new lifters w/ the roller bearings.
hot oil press was an issue. 11psi @ idle,
rose to 50 at the touch of the throttle.
had the same oil pressure as before tear down.
in the midst of an oil cooler swap from the last engine i fired up on the stand.
lifters do pump up as expected.
i dont have this issue on any other valve except #1.
will report back after oil cooler swap.
its like the rockers are too tight.
i will also be purchasing adjustable pushrods.
lots of adjustment in the harland sharpes so this wouldnt be an issue.

no other noise in the engine minus the valvetrain.

So if you pretend it has adjustable rockers.......... after zero lash, how many turns till the rocker bolt is tight?

A note about the low oil pressure. My best guess is the spring in the oil pressure regulating valve has weakened. Sadly they are non replaceable too. When the rear oil cooler header is off the engine use a small burr to remove as little aluminum as possible so the regulator can come out. check the spring wire for wear. Many times I have found the spring wire has worn down as much as half the wire thickness. If you had a new spring you sure could make plenty o money selling replacement springs. But you need a spring to start with.
That regulator is peened in place.a

Maybe try a thin shim under the pedestal?
may try that next. was a bit under the weather today, didnt do much but get new oil cooler gaskets.

with my inexperience with this, i am going to simply replace the cooler off of the last engine i fired up.
already on the bench and cleaned up ready to install tomorrow.
gonna see how it does, and try dieselcrawlers idea

Cooler wont chamge nadda....its a sunk valve...long valve ..bad rocker fulcrums or rockers...maybe swap lifters???.. or cam lobe since you spec'd the rocker bolt bosses as flat all across...and pushrods make nadda.

Just tossing my thoughts out there...bet eh...*** do I know...clearly...not much.

Just sayin
