Broken rear sliding window latch

I have a 94 F250 ECLB Factory turbo, the latch to the rear window was broken when I got it. I ordered the kit from Rockauto to replace the latch, but when I went to secure the latch it broke off in the same place as the one I just replaced.

I ordered Doorman help kit # 76989 Everything lined up great, it just seemed that the latch wasnt long enough

This is a crappy design IMO, so my question is what can I do? I know I cant be the only one with this struggle

On my 94, that whole drivers side black end piece is gone.

But that's why I kept the window from my 88, latch and everything is there.

My dorman broke after about 3-4 opening. My 89 had a metal latch, can't find that anywhere. Subscribed.

same thing happened on my dads truck. we ended up buying a second one and were really careful when we latched it. kind of like the plastic just needs to stretch out a bit. has been workng fine for a couple years now and there is no need to be overly gentle with it now either.

Leave it broke, if you lock your keys in truck you can still get in. You and your friends are the only one that know its broke. So no need to worry.(if your worried about your friends steeling your truck, get new friends)

True, but I can unlock the latch with a knife. And get in the wing windows pretty easy. (They don't lock.)
Yes we seem to lock keys in a LOT.

Ive thought about leaving it broken, Locks only keep honest people out anyways, But now its just the principle lol

Like Eric, I bought a Dorman replacement when mine failed, and I was very gentle with it at first and it seems to hold up pretty well. OTOH I don't open the back window very often; not very easy to reach on an extended-cab truck while you're driving. I wish there was a cost-effective power replacement option...I remember thinking that power windows were an unnecessary luxury when I was younger, but it really makes life easier if you want to open a window you can't reach while you're driving...

I wound a piece of electric fence wire around it and it is perminately locked. It's a crew cab and I am usually by myself so I never opened it anyhow. It got broken because some ****** decided to break into my truck. I can see from the marks on the frame that others have tried to break into it since, but so sorry for them, no luck. Where I work is a suprisingly high crime area and its a busy fire station so we are in and out all the time. I had 80 gallons of farm diesel stolen out of my transfer tank a couple of months ago and I never leave anything in the bed but empty beer cans and old hay twine - pawn that!

Thats probably what I should do, since I will probably never use that window, but I like to struggle and spend money while doing so lol

i went through two of the dorman ones. i started looking at the "why" and the area where the two halves meet was too long, so when you'd try to latch
it, the plastic piece was put in a bind, and would snap off. i took a knife and trimmed down the meeting areas, and it latches and unlatches like it should.
i also trimmed up the inside of the latch where it snaps over the piece mounted on the glass. it still snaps, but not nearly as tight.
i don't open mine often, since the vacuum sucks in whatever leaves, saw dust...whatever might be in the truck bed. and since my a/c now works...you know what i mean.

and if you're locking your keys in your truck, you can take one of the little hide-a-key things, a 20lb magnet, and some epoxy and make one hell of a hide-a-key that shouldn't
ever fall off!
i devised that plan last time i lock my keys in the truck. at northern tool. the day after i fixed the sliding window lock.
