Broken rear sliding window latch

Haven't had problems with my latch, but I started carrying a key for the door in my wallet years ago. At 3 in the morning I inadvertently hit the electric door locks on my p/u at the time when closing the door. Keys in the ignition, motor running. Took 45 min to get another key to me. Went out the next day and had a spare door key made. Tucked it in a slot in my wallet. I have only had to use it a few times, but I knew where it was when I needed it. I do it for any of my vehicles that I drive often.

I do that also. House keys too, just need to get a copy for my 94.

Well im here to give an update and say project complete

I ordered the metal latch from amazon ($12 shipped)

As you can see from the picture the holes are just a little bit off

So I wallered out one of the holes with a drill bit until I was able to have a clean view through the old piece

I took a wire brush to clean up the burrs, in retrospect I would just use a small file, and touch it up with a sharpie, but I went crazy and painted it.

It comes with new black screws, they aren’t the same thread pitch, but the stock ones will be too long. So I just used the small ones it comes with, and they snuggled up tight, so I was happy.

Overall im happy, the new metal latch clamps, and holds the windows together pretty tight. Well worth the 12 bucks and little bit of time it took to waller the holes out

Haha I afraid to lock my truck. The last time I locked it took about half an hour to unlock the driver's door. I had to pry the door panel off and use a coat hanger to undo the lock.

I'll be doing one of these before long, as I had saved the good window from my 88, put it in my 94, then a idiot buddy broke the latch.
