More progress, after much deliberation we got the driveshafts setup and built by driveshaft specialists here in sa, 1350 and 1410 joints all around with single piece custom shafts to match the 88 running gear to the superduty axles. Fit like a glove on first install.

Wes, I've seen you do a single piece rear driveshaft on a couple trucks now, what is the advantage of this? Is it just to eliminate the carrier bearing and a u-joint? I always figured there must be a reason Ford used a carrier bearing. I would have thought it would have been cheaper for them to go single piece so I wonder what their reasoning was for the 2 piece design they used.

Comes down to the application, similar to what Ford did. My single cab bullnose came with a single piece from the factory due to the short wheel base and trans combo.

With this particular one, the short length of the rear shaft (43.7”) made for an easier driveline angle with a single piece, so less ujoint wear and vibrations, as well as less things to break/stronger overall.

Engine is wired, new 4/0 marine starter cables and grounds, fuel pump relay kit, 220 amp alternator wiring kit and manual glow plug kit installed, wire tucked the engine bay harness under the battery tray and mounted the connector for the engine harness right off the tray.

intercooler piping is getting finish welded with the intake mani tonight, finishing up what few things are left without having the intake on for final assembly, wired up the fuel distribution block with the factory filter head sensors so all the dash lights still work. Mounted the coolant reservoir and finished up the cooling system, rad fan shroud, fan and lower hose is on, going to replace the thermostat housing with a less corroded spare, once it’s dry top rad hose will be in and fluids can go in!

Well we officially have a 4x4 now, Ford shift boot came in so made a hole in the floor and used the factory delete panel screw holes to mount the cover, new cover is very well insulated and fits the body well even with the vinyl floor.

Once the shifter was in we had issues getting every gear on the tcase, disconnect the linkage and the shifter would go through every detent and tcase had every gear. Did some digging in my idi parts hoard and found another 4x4 shifter that was meant for a 1345 arm, turns out the the donor shifter we had in it had the link for a 1356, shifter is basically the same on the zf side but the linkage bar needed for the 1345 is slightly longer than the 1356, now we have every gear.

Possibly, I’ve already got 50 products with various options and add ons I stock inventory for so depending on how 2021 goes I may be adding to the product line or keeping it about the same, we’ll see how the new year goes!
