Probably best to leave the western part of the state alone, I think most of the people there like their solitude.
Yes that's pretty true. It takes a certain type of person to live out here. You need to have a certain mindset as well. You just have to understand that things just aren't always available here like in the eastern 1/3-1/2 of the state. Such as it takes over an hour just to drive to Wal-Mart out here. Parts stores generally close at noon or 1:00 PM Saturday and don't open again until Monday morning.

I guess I should appreciate that my local Napa is a 10 minute walk away, and Oreileys and Autozone are across the highway...

What do you consider well paying?
Well, 100k a year before taxes isn’t a whole lot in this economy, but as low as the cost of living is in this part of the world, that kind of money will allow a person to live very comfortably here. I have a lot of life left ahead of me, and already make more than that… so I don’t have much to worry about. Long term investments are key too.

Just think,.....I graduated from a little SMALL country school in '68 & headed off to college.
14 in my Grad Class & only me that headed off to college. (Prairie Valley,Tx, small country school, 7 miles into the sticks outside of Nocona, Tx)

My main point....... Of the other graduating kids that stayed home, found full time jobs, and EVERY ONE OF THEM married & starting families all within 2 yrs time........they stayed & worked full time jobs for BIG salaries of $1.00/hr= $40.00 per week take home, less withholdings!!!!!
And everyone of them was HAPPY & had plenty, able to buy homes, pay bills, stick some back into savings!!!!!

And I planned on being different!!!! Planned on being a millionaire by time I was 25....... then changed that and was gonna be there & DO IT by 30....... Then finally just gave up!!!!!!

And @IDIoit being at a low point do cause struggles in life! But you WILL prevail!!!

Other day I got to thinking, "I wonder how much do it really cost per day?"
If I took all our costs/expenses.....My & Carol's costs of daily, weekly, monthly, yearly dollars spent.........Add EVERYTHING up for the year, divide by 365, then look & peek to see how much it actually cost us per day last year.......Cost daily for us just to breath air for a day!!!

It'll be a bit of an eye opener if you do a second collumn of
What we must have to be comfy...

Rerail
Brian you already have a grip on the reality of the situation at home.
Godspeed with that.

Now these pumps need a name...

Nbsjp= no b.s. just power
Nhjp =no hype just performance
Ayrn= all you really need
Sqe= simple quick and effective
Jgid= just geting it done
None are catchy:sorry:

Anyhow , look at some of the 50's ish era pumps like ac or carter back when you could unscrew them and knock out the shaft to replace bushing to get some ideas.
Some of those available today look good for your conversation.
Appreciate the effort to fix aneeded supply issue.
Go man go.

Hello all, been lurking on the forms for quiet some time am new to the idi world and wanted to share some of the work i've done. I was inspired by Idioit's lift pump build and decided to build my own. modified a carter 6.9L carter lift pump arm to fit a 110 gph Chevy big block pump to the best of my abilities seem to ride on the cam lobe the same as the old pump. just got my 6.9L rebuild finished as its been down a few months did a bunch of upgrades 110cc injection pump, injectors, inter cooler, turbo, etc. put the modified big block pump on and so far no issue. idles at 7.5 psi on the fuel pressure, under normal acceleration it can drop down to 6 psi and just flooring it usually drops to 5 psi. trucks only been running for a month and put 300 miles on it with the modified lift pump so hopefully it lasts. I'll post some videos of it running just got to find them. Thank you Idioit for the inspiration and all the work you've done other wise I probably never would have tried doing this.

Dang you beat him to it @BullDiesel ! So tell us, is all you did was swap out the actuator arm, or did you do more? Would love to see a DIY for the rest of us to attempt it.

AWESOME!
i cant lie, im mad you beat me to it, but im ECSTATIC THAT YOU HAVE IT DONE!!
GOOD ON YOU MY GUY!
i cant help but to worry about how the pin is held in on these.
i think im going to use a shoulder bolt instead of the pin.
how did you do yours?

this gives me hope for the DIY'er can do it themselves!
i really didnt want to market these because the cost of a good pump is so high.

i love your fuel pressure psi at WOT!!!

I reused the pin just drove it back in and hoped for the best. Thanks for bringing that up I haven’t check to see if it’s walking out or not.
I hear you on the price of the pumps there not cheap by any means.

bro, address this NOW.
if that arm falls into your gears, you can possibly destroy the engine.
i also had the idea of drilling and tapping a small set screw into the side to hold the pin.
this is a big liability concern of mine

another reason for not really being hot on this.
i actually had a dream where i was driving my brick, and this happened, and "the front fell off"
like completely blew the front clip off the entire truck LOL

Noooooooooo:(
So if you're going to setscrew the pin, put a groove in the pin to index the screw.

thats why you drill the housing with the pin in its location, that way the taper of the drill bit gives the set screw has a home
