Sooooooo
I have bad batteries. We all know that these trucks take a lot of power to crank/ start
Here's the deal.....I can afford 850 cca but 925 is double the cost.
Thoughts?

I stop at the local junkyards semi-regular and check for batteries. I've got a matching set of diehard platinums in my truck that I got for $40 a piece and they were barely a year old at the time. When cash is tight (or non-existent in my case) these are the things you look out for.

I used to get tires like this, and I've found some really great sets and pairs for $25 to $40 a piece. The trick is to know what you need and check regularly.

That's how I USED to get tires, about a year ago I became pretty good friends with the manager at a local pepboys (we are "Knight Rider enthusiast") and I can get basically whatever tire I want at cost...... it's pretty amazing. PRAISE GOD!!!

I wish we still had yards like that around me. Lkq purchased all the local yards and they strip the cars when they come in of all the good parts and batteries and sell them at a premium.

Oh interesting I see th LKQ trucks around and wondered where they source from. Most the good parts are stripped regardless.

When vehicles come into PNP, thy remove the wheels and spare tire. Dismount the tires and throw the Rims in the scrap Dumpsters. Steel in one and aluminum in the other. Lots of good hard to find Rims lost as well as Hub caps etc...

I did score on a set of the 16" steel grey Rims a few years back. was a 97 Van in the area where they are in line to be processed. Asked the mgr. if any way I could get the Rims?
They brought the Van up front and removed the Wheels. Saw it had Hub Caps, said I will buy Wheels, Tires and caps. $350.

Just because a vehicle comes in the yards, doesn`t mean all the parts are cra p. I have seen a lot of new parts on them.
I picked up 3 245 75 16" tires with the little nibbies still on them for around $25 ea. have them on the front end and have run them the past 3 years....and this is our DD.

Lots of vehicles, is can see why they are in there. Not one part worth dragging home. And some, don`t know how they made to the junk yard...LOL

850’s are fine
I’ve been using group 31 batteries in pretty much everything now, 950/1000 cca per and they are less than the battieries that your supposed to get
You would not believe how fast it spins it’s remarkable
The top studs are nice just need to put new ends on your existing cables
Some people say you need to lower the tray but have done it on an 86 and 93 with no issues

ALL stores that sell batteries have to take them off the shelf when they are on the shelf too long. These are brand new batteries that never sold. All you have to do is ask them.

Some will deny they do such a thing, note to self, never buy batteries from that store. Autozone, Advance, the Interstate battery store, they all have to rotate their stock and take brand new batteries off the shelf that have not sold. I used to be able to get batteries from Autozone like this for $50. It has gone up to somewhere around $60 here lately. I went to Advance, they have their "used" batteries usually sitting on the end of the counter. A couple of years ago they had two of the same type and I was looking for a matched set for my diesel. They had $70 each on them. I told the guy behind the counter I could get "used" batteries for $50 each across the street at Autozone, and he said ok and instantly took $20 off each battery. They are a little smaller than the stock battery, but like the other guys said, they crank the truck over fine in any weather.

If you go this route, you have to be creative and go with what they happen to have sitting there when you go to the store. Do not buy the batteries that have the terminals sunk down in a cavity in the battery, because you sometimes have to turn the battery around backwards if the + and - terminals are in the wrong position. I just bought a used battery from Autozone for a new acquisition, a 2002 f150. The battery fit fine except the terminals were backwards. So I had to flip the battery around, and then undo a clip holding one of the battery cables so it would reach to the other side. No biggie.

Brilliant, all I'll add is that you have to get to be good friends with a tire store manager......I'm not going to share prices, I'll just say IF YOU ARE A PERSON WHO DOESN'T HAVE A LOT OF MONEY TO SPEND AND THE LITTLE BIT YOU DO NEEDS TO BE SPENT ON PRIORITIES LIKE FOOD AND FEED FOR YOUR LIVESTOCK THEN IT GREATLY BEHOOVES YOU TO BECOME REALLY GOOD FRIENDS WITH A TIRE STORE MANAGER, LOL.... SERIOUSLY...
