O.K. I'll post a separate post on how to do the swap. I found this to be the easiest for me and you might too! There isn't a book on this type of stuff or a so called Bible on "How To" LOL. I do have pics of this and I hope you don't have a dial-up connection!

Chubbs090--It's a fairly easy swap. Do yourself a big favor and pull the nose off, it will make fabricating the new mounts alot easier.

351m/400 weighs around 5-550, 6.9/7.3 weighs 1-1100--a bit of a difference.

Ford428CJ--Nice truck

Real nice looking truck. Sure looks like 5 lug wheels to me so I dunno. Unless they had a special spring setup for extended cab trucks??!!

I'll be heading to W Virginia sometime for a weekend. Give me the heads up if you end up selling the old motor / trans.

No zinc in a lot of the oils is what might be causing your problem! NO kidding on that. There are a select few oils that have zinc left in them. I know a lot of people that have flatten out there cams because of that. What oil are you using????

Mr Roboto: The 77-79 F150 ex cab 4x4 is an oddball unit... It has a 3/4 ton chassis with leafs, and push/pull steering, not the coils/crossover the reg cab F150's had, it's truly a completley oddball truck.

Uhm, if a bronco will handle it...:) Mel, paging doctor Mel!!! ;Sweet

Yea, there should be no problem with the F-150 frame, provided that you don't off road and beat the hell out of it. About the only difference I can see so far in the 80-97 frames is the diesel equiped ones have a much larger front cross member. I haven't done any measuring, but when I compare the Bronco to the F-250, that's about the only difference I see. I would imagine the 70's versions would have similar differences, but as was already stated were probably stout'er to begin with.

You will need at least F-250 springs for the front. And I would use Dana 60's (front and rear). I don't think that Dana 44 is going to hold the weight that well. I would set it up for a Heavy F-250 suspension. JMHO.

Dana 44 works fine, even with 5 lug rims, for on-road use.
