So heard nothing but good things about stiction eliminator, yes know it’s a powerstroke thing mostly but I was interested in trying it to see if my intermittent valve ticking noise would stop and since I put it in earlier today my truck sounds like a old sewing machine non stop, the rest of the day the noise never stopped like it usually tends to do and I drove quite a bite it seems to sound worse now. Could the stiction eliminator made my issue worse somehow? It’s been ticking on and off for years now. Not fuel related newish r and d system, not exhaust leaks, defiantly internal. Goes away with throttle applied during acceleration, not really loud at idle, seems mainly at a light load situation like empty driving in town. My phone won’t pick up the sound very well but I’ve got lots of videos with engine noise in them if that may help?

Did you change the oil when putting it in?
May run it a bit longer, then change the oil again.

Dude!!!

Stiction is what diesels run on!

Man, are you lucky you didn't eliminate all of it!

You better toss some sand in there real quick!

I thought stiction was for injectors where oil pressure controlled the fuel delivery. You need the additive to prevent buildup in the oil passages of the injectors. Our injectors run on fuel pressure, so I would think fuel additive would be the equivalent on our systems. I don't think sticktion comes into play in our engines.

As far as HEUI "stiction" you are correct.
But it will clean the engine as a whole.

Yea that intermittent valve tick seems to be pretty common in these idis. More frequently no doubt, with 7.3's over 6.9's, which is interesting but Im not going to get into that at this moment,

When the tick is related to lifters (sticking or hanging up a bit) which it sometimes is, then yes; an additive in the oil of some kind can and might help break down any gunk that may be contributing to the issue. I have remedied said lifter ticks with oil concoctions a few times, it usually takes a few low mileage oil changes in a row and 5k or so to get to really knock it back. It almost never happens right away.

As for what additives, I also don't want to go down that road too deeply but stiction additives like Archoil or Hotshots are really designed for benefit in HEUI systems and are priced way too high for what your intended use is. It no doubt is probably good oil additive and fine for the engine, just not necessary at the moment or for this purpose. You could try a thin, detergent/solvent like additive like Marvel Mystery Oil or Rislone Engine treatment, Seafoam etc. Dose as per instruction, and run the truck. Change the oil again with the same additive package after 1k or so then again after a couple k and you should be in business. IF that's your issue. If not, well then you are out the cost of that extra quick oil change and the additives. Not the end of the world.

Sticking lifters in not the type of "stiction" that those stiction additives claim to deal with. They do work good for certain injector issues in 6.0 trucks and less so in 7.3 powerstrokes.

Now that describes it pretty well. The first time I heard that term, it was in a magazine talking about motocross bike forks.
