I have seen a few 093 kits with the controller under the turbo with no heat shielding and they were fine. What pain to deal with though when you need to do something with the controller.

Yeah, I figured the turbo and the controller would be very close together and that's why I was surprised ATS didn't plan to relocate it with the 093 kit. I don't like all that heat soaking the controller either, even if they do hold up to it.

WOW, someone finally noticed the differences.LOL
I get all kinds of wierd responses when someone says they have a factory 093, and I say, "well which is it"? LOL

The oil feed to the turbo is certainly different too - looks like the OEM setup is more "robust" than the 093 kit is that respect.

You could get some universal type of insulation and cover your glow plug controller if you don't want to move it. A lot of the turbo kits left the return lines in the N/A locations too. NOT my personal preference.

Just thinking out loud here....... I ordered the Banks replacement downpipe to replace the OEM crushed downpipe and that arrived today. Yeah, I know I am getting the cart before the horse here as I have not yet even shipped the turbo to Russ for the rebuild yet (soon!). Looking at the downpipe, it is pretty short compared to the OEM pipe. Anyone know if the lower half of the 2 piece Diamond Eye OBS Powerstroke downpipe would mate up to the Banks DP? I know the Banks is that "odd" 2.75" id/3"od.

I’m pretty sure it will not. The diamond eye is 3”. I believe the bottom section is expanded to fit over the 3” so it is way bigger than 3”. Is the banks pipe not 2 pieces? I got a downpipe off a sidewinder for parts but I don’t know how similar It is to the ATS stuff.

Thanks for the response, Mike. The Banks DP is one piece but it is "short" - about 1/2 the length of the crushed OEM DP. I ordered the Banks "intermediate pipe" (part no. 52130) from Summit, which may or may not work to make up for the short DP. That will take three weeks to get here as it must be drop shipped from Banks. At least if it doesn't work, I can return it to Summit (although the return shipping may cost enough it won't be worth it).

I bet you cannot return that pipe to summit because it was special ordered. Its very easy to hook the "short" banks pipe to a good exhaust. Pretty cheap at any shop worth its salt.

My problem is, living out here in the sticks, the nearest exhaust shop is about 1-1/2 hours away. I would either need to go to La Crosse or Madison, so was I was hoping for a "bolt in" solution. I may yet still need to go to an exhaust shop if the Banks pipe doesn't work.

Might be cheaper to just buy a 110 wire welder..... lol

Oh, I have been looking at 'em for a long while now. The Hobarts seem like good machines at decent prices, and are readily available in many hardware/farm supply stores in my area.

My Hobart handler 140 has been a solid machine. No complaints except I wish it was bigger. LOL

The Vulcan line seems to be a real deal contender on the economy market. Inverter technology has come a long way in the last few years. As much as it pains me to say it, Chinese electronics manufacturing has gotten better too. For the hobbiest, I don’t know that it makes sense to go with a Miller or Lincoln. They may or may not have Chinese parts in them too at this point. If your livelihood depends on it then that’s a different story.

So dumb question, will the 2.75 slip inside the 3”? Maybe a good band clamp? You might be able expand the 2.75 a bit with a pipe expander.

@mblaney did that very thing in his "turbo tale" thread. I was hoping that by using the Banks pipe I might be able to eliminate at least one joint.

The Banks pipe was $60 from Summit with free shipping (over $99 order), so it wasn't outrageous. Banks wanted $80.00 plus shipping. Now if it doesn't work, then it will have been expensive.
