So, my son worked 100 hours for his grandpa digging holes, chopping wood, clearing brush, and other odds and ends for his first truck.
A 1961 F100.
Straight 6 and a 4 speed.
Minor fuel leak from the bowl.
Needs rims nd tires, and to have the billet aluminum garbage taken off.
Some paint and some love she'll be a great first vehicle!
Loaded up and ready for the haul home!

That has to be one of the coolest first cars for a young man I have ever seen. Congrats to him, not only for getting a cool ride, but for putting in the hard work to get it!

This truck will be staying I-6 for a while.
We're gonna give it a slight make over,
A rustolium paint job, there's a window regulator that needs new rollers.
A carb with a leakin fuel bowl, and brakes that need some work.
Other than that, he's gonna drive the hell out of it.
I tried to offer up a 7.3 and 2 WD ZF, but his response was,
"I can't afford to even drive it without a job, how do you expect me to buy parts?"
So I nodded and accepted. Lol

My first ride was a 60 ranchero. I had a job since I was 13. But that was a different time.
I gave a guy 100 bucks for it and he towed it home for me. And I got my ass beat from my dad because the very first thing I did was pull the head to have it rebuilt, as it turned over but didn't run.
My parents had a very nice house and out in the street was my uber POS

I grew up with parents that had a bit of money, but the only thing that was free in life was food.
Hell I had to pay rent at 13, because I had a job!
All my friends around me were given new cars and I was over there gettin my ass beat because I made a grease spot lol
Well those friends are the coke heads that are still partying, and don't have **** to show for it.
My addiction went straight o vehicles lol

Cool truck and the six banger will help in the ticket dept. I remember taking my kid to get his first car...'92 Ealgle Talon Turbo AWD. He didnt have his license yet so I took it for a spin and have to admit I was a little jealous. He did lose his license for 3 months after about a year but learned his lesson.

If that's a '61, I think it has a 223 - the 240/300 didn't come around until later. Ought to have a BW transmission and 9" rear end, too.
Needs an FE/C6 or 460/C6!

The more stock you can leave it, the more it will be worth down the road. The hot rod guys really love I-6 trucks for the simplicity, longevity and gas savings (much like an IDI!). They are trucks, not rallye cars or drag racers, after all. It is also nice to pull away from a young lady's house and not wake her parents.

Leaving it stock, is something that's very rare at my house.
We have 2 stock vehicles. The woman's bran new car, and the back up vehicle.
the E350. Other than that, the rest are either custom or mildly upgraded.

I don't want to work on this truck much.
I want to help him understand drum brakes, and help him with a bit of body work.
Other than that it's his job to take care of the other stuff.
Not very many vehicles on the road that are this simple.
So it's basically up to him!

His response to that, shows me he is a responsible kid.

We, as in Lima Engine Plant, I think built those engines. Started out building the 170/200, then dropped the 170 and went to the 240. Been too many years ago to remember exactly when, but had to be in the early 60's after dropping the Edsel V8 engine.

Bill The small 6 cylinder with the built in integral intake manifold was the 144. Then the 170. Then the 200. This pictured engine in the truck appears to be the 233, 240, 300 block family. For me its impossible to say what cibic inch any of the mentioned engines are without some numbers stamped on them. This pictured engine will be a torquer engine for sure. That is a very telling smile Smiling like a hero that just got a medal.....

Very cool, Brian. My son was helping me with a roof this weekend and mentioned he would love to get a F100 ... or a little Ranger. I thought I was covered on his vehicle needs since the ex neighbor (my ex wife's new husband ... go ahead and laugh, I do. another story for another day) promised him a Chevy Aveo. Turns out the guy keeps driving it, won't let my son get seat time for his license in it and is always telling my son there is some new mechanical problem with it. Unfortunately I cannot count towards his driving because I am in a different state. Time to keep my eye out for a pickup I guess.

I have this core 300 sitting here on a pallett, bore it 100, 390 pistons, cam, 4bbl or 3 singles, header , Big valves in the head. Makes some V8,s take notice.. Not that ive built many of them, lol
