Try switching filters 2a better quality filter like a Wix 51734XE or AMSOIL EAO99
your expensive RP oil will last alot longer than with the filter you have now.

Just switch the filter and leave the oil, you will notice the difference after a few long hauls that the oil will be cleaner on the stick

Wil try that, was planing on changing the filter soon anyway. I used to change my Kendall at 5000 miles. That cost me around 80 bucks or so. I figure if I can get 10000 outa the RP I will be happy

Mystic JT-8 and FL-1995 filter. Every sample has come back good.

When i first bought my truck and used Rotella-T i thought something was wrong with it because i was adding oil every other day. Switched to Mystic JT-8 and now im adding about 1 qrt every 3k miles.

I would not rule out the motorcraft filters. They were, and I stress were because suppliers may have switched, made by puralator, and that particular filter was the pure one series spec. Pure one filters have shown to be, time and time again, an excellent filter. Not a better bargain out there.

Many automotive filtering companies state that their oil filters can filter down to 10 microns or 0.00033 of an inch, but at what percentage can they filter that size of a particle.
For example, all automotive oil filters will filter a 10 micron particle to some extent. Some cheaper designs will only filter one percent of all 10 micron particles in the engine oil, while others can filter out 75 percent of all 10 microns particles. The difference between a mediocre and superior oil filter design is that the poor design will only filter the 10 micron particle by chance, while the superior oil filter was designed to specifically filter 75 percent of all 10 micron particles.

AMSOIL Ea® Oil Filters (EaO, Ea15K) have one of the best efficiency ratings in the automotive/light-truck market. Ea Oil Filters provide a filtering efficiency in accordance with industry standard ISO 4548-12 of 98.7 percent at 20 microns, while competitive filters demonstrate efficiencies as low as 51 percent.

In the 1988 Correlating Lube Oil Filtration Efficiencies With Engine Wear technical paper published by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the relationship between filtration levels and abrasive engine wear was established. Testing determined that wear was reduced by as much as 70 percent by switching from a 40µ filter to a 15µ filter.

The SAE conducted tests on a heavy-duty diesel engine and an automotive gasoline engine, and both provided consistent results.

The SAE paper summarizes the test results with the following conclusions:

"Abrasive engine wear can be substantially reduced with an increase in filter single pass efficiency. Compared to a 40µ filter, engine wear was reduced by 50% with 30µ filtration. Likewise, wear was reduced by 70% with 15µ filtration."

"Controlling the abrasive contaminants in the range of 2 to 22µ in the lube oil is necessary for controlling engine wear."

"The micron rating of a filter, as established in a single pass efficiency type test, does an excellent job in indicating the filter’s ability to remove abrasive particles in the engine lube oil system."

I spent some time looking for on the WIX website for filter performance I did not find anything other than the RACING filter performance Anyone else have that info to compare?

Usually the Supertech from Walmart. If the Canadian tire "Motomaster" brand is on sale, I will pop that into her. I ALWAYS use Z max on EVERY second oil change....always have since I bought her and always will. She gets either a Fram PSD filter, I know....flame away....or a Baldwin filter, also a PSD filter.

Recently, I bought 5 gallons of Rotella T. People say it's watery and gets comsumed fast. I will say this, I DID notice a 5 psi drop in my oil pressure when hot AND cold. It may be the Rotella, it may be my oil pump or it may be my gauge. When i run out of Rotella and go back to more frugal brands, we will know if it was the oil or not.

I don't know why I use the cheap oil. I mean I always thought oil was oil. I know some claim to be better, I know some ARE better....but by how much and at what cost?

When someone comes up with hardcore evidence that cheap oil caused a catastrophic failure of an engine, then I will consider higher costing brands...but I haven't heard of an enigne blowing up because someone ran Supertech for the first time after running Delo all it's life....kinda like saying a diesel will become addicted to ether

Goofy your right theres nothing wrong with using the cheap oil. Considering most people change there oil between 3000-5000 miles anyway it will work just fine.

Allot of the cheap or store brand oils are made by the big oil companies anyways and just relabeled.

mobil 1 5w 40 fully synthetic w/ mobil 1 synthetic filter M1-601.
easier starting,instant high oil pressure,less engine ware,10k change interval.
it's about the same price running dino w/ 3k intervals anyway.
i really should send a sample in to see if 15k or even 20k is possible and actually start saving $.

I use rotella. yes she burns/leaks a couple or quarts over an oil change interval. But 2 quarts over 3000 miles is not much for an engine with 290,000 miles on it in my opinion
