I'm guessing he'll be in the 350-450 HP range and an ungodly amount of torque(750-850)

Traitor, How about keeping it in the family!!!!
he ain't the only one. In fact, show me a IDI owner here who wouldn't want to do what Darrin's doing if time/facilities/money allows. I've got a '92 Cummins waiting to find a home in a Ford chassis too. Easy on fuel, easy to bomb, good on power. Only bad thing is the parts to fix is twice to three times as much a Ford IDI. For a commercial operation, the Ford makes sense. Motors are plentiful and not terribly expensive and pretty durable. For personal all out transport, the Cummins makes sense when in a Ford chassis. I for one hate Mopar electrical-cuss-cuss-cuss

+1 on that.;Sweet

Well, with those types of hp numbers and living proof that Trav hasn't grenaded a cummins in 100k miles, I think it's gonna be a strong runner.

For a Fummins.LOL

I would like to see those numbers, probablly closer to the 350 and 750.I may dyno the truck again this year at MA in Holland, well see how it is running first.

I will get some pics tomorrow but am getting close to running it. The Itercooler is installed and 85% plumbed. I needed to buy the Ford boots for the intercooler and had to wait a day to get them. Bummer part is that I bought the whole inercooler tubing kit for like $120 shipped, the 2 boots and clamps that I needed from Ford were $118.00.

If you need more room in your engine compartment, you can take 2 Optima batteries, turn them sideways, and with a little modification they will sit together on the drivers side battery tray, freeing up the passenger side. that is where the big ole air cleaner will be sitting. Ill post pics tomorrow. ;Sweet

I will be dumping in the antifreeze tomorrow, got all of the hoses hooked up, tying up some wiring, and reinstalling the front of the truck, I'll have to do a little more fabricating, but for the most part, the rest is just buttoning stuff up.

Gotta head to bed,..

I ran each neg batt cable from the batts to the motor, and the positive to the positive, then across to the silenoid.

Here are a few more pics, but the all of the batt cables arent installed yet. I'll get some better battery pics when they are hooked up.

Got my hand raised.

That's not to say I wouldn't take a cummins and convert a gasser with it for a fun project.

I know you're a dyed-in-the-wool IH IDI guy Mel. But even you was pretty impressed with the Goat's durge. I have to find that thread from the IDI get-togehter a year or two ago.....:rotflmao:rotflmao:rotflmao
iirc there was even a video floating around with you in the Durge....

I gotta put in my 2 cents woth as well. That's definitly a costly venture not that the goat smuggle is droppin some coin to do it but he's still ahead of the game even money wise on the conversion given the cost of the donor truck and including a puked 7.3 replacement.;Sweet

I'll stick to my IH IDI since I've 3 strong runners, heck even 2007 IDI.

I gotta confess tho, that thing is gonna scoot for a cross breed.............

If he ever get it done.;Poke

Gitr done goat smuggler and stop sellin cars for a few days!LOL

Why do you call Mater a 2007?

Cause it is.:D
Actually, long story short, I got stuck with getting it titled as a 2007 since Michigan assembled vehicle code requires it to be titled to the year it was built, 87 chassis with an 85 cab. Sucks for plates and insurance tho since they also go by title info.:puke:
No way around it legally, so as the title says 2007 assembled vehicle.cookoo

That is a great idea. I could put the pair on the passenger side, dump the vacuum canister that I moved under that drivers battery since it is not needed any longer and lots of room for a nice air cleaner and box.

I ran into a small problem, but am going to remidy it tomorrow. With the dual Optimas on one side, there is not enough room for the headlight plug. It looks like I can remove the plug, and splice the wires directly to the headlight. I got the parts to do it today will install it tomorrow.

I got the motor full of fluids, started it up and let it run till it got warm, had take care of an injector leak today, and got the air intake built and had to paint a bracket for it. it will be installed tomorrow.

Hope to drive it tomorrow afternoon, as long as the customers leave me alone. :D

As far as the Cummins Swap debate, Two things:

1: If the 7.3 Jasper that I insalled last year was a "good" motor I would not have done the C swap. The truck would have been done and a 7.3 would have been there till it blew. The IDI did everything that I wanted it to do with the turbo and LPG.

2: If I didn't have the opportunity to buy the Ford Cummins doner truck, that had everyhintg that I needed for the swap, I would have put in another 7.3.
But since I found that doner truck, and knew that I could part out the rest of the truck and have the swap basicly paid for, it was then a no brainer.

Keep in mind that these swaps arent cheap, some companies charge $5,000 just for the labor, another company charges $15K to $20K for a complete turn key swap.

My conversion will cost me out of pocket about under a grand. (not counting my labor).

For that I am getting:

100 more horsepower
200 more ft pounds of torque
3 to 5 more MPG
A 20K mile Cummins Motor.

So its all good,..
