Drove the truck to work yesterday since the DD Toyota is sitting on jackstanda waiting for parts. Bought the truck some diesel and oil as a treat on the way home for saving the day when the Toyota broke down. Starting to plan out what maintenance needs done before a long trip down into california with the camper this summer. So far just need to do little stuff like the valve cover gaskets and door strikers.

New trailer light connector... this thing was about $25 on amazon, comes with the 7 way and 4 prong connector in one unit. Replacing the raggedy, busted 7 way connector that had obviously been smashed three or four times with a trailer tongue.

Was there a color diagram you used for that? My factory connector got ripped out at some point

Now how are we going to get my truck shipped over to you, to be timed, and shipped back? LOL

Read those timing meter instructions several times. They seem to skip around a bit, but once you see that, it's not hard to follow.

I had a general idea how to run it already, so that helps too. Just need weather warm enough to care to try it!

Wonder what the little metal loop is for...

It's the inductive pick up so that you can actually use a timing light that's made for a gasoline engine and clips onto a spark plug wire. I didn't realize this myself until I read it in the instructions. I already had a timing light that would have worked with the meter. That's ok. I now have the "proper" light that plugs into the meter where the dial says "light" (it just came in today). I like having the finger adjustment to see where your timing is at. All I need now is a turnbuckle to hold the throttle at 2000 RPM and I'll be set!

See now I thought you said that, but I didn't see it when I thoroughly skimmed the manual quickly

Where did you get the "correct light" that plugs in? I was curious about that.

EDIT: I found it. Actually not as expensive as I suspected, but for $80 I'll just use the universal light if I ever need to!

Mine had a T connector already installed up behind the rear bumper with a 4 flat. Might have been factory, not sure. Looks kinda like this:

https://www.carid.com/tekonsha/t-one-connector-mpn-118316.html?singleid=2362300645&url=3177981

I need to run the rest of the wiring for trailer electric brakes and a new brake controller at some point.
I also used a T connector in the the tail light harness with a 4 flat then my 7 way plugs into that. I got the T connector and 7 way plug from rock auto and am very happy with them. Then for the brake controller I ran 10 gauge wires from the battery to a 40 am breaker to the controller, then all the way down the frame frame rail to the plug. The hot wire for the plug, I ran the same way but used a 30 amp breaker. The PO of my truck, cut all the wires for the trailer lights and breaks and left the hot wires bare on the frame! It was such a mess, so I just re wired everything completely and installed a new controller just because I went that far. Here are some pictures, I hope this is of some help.

That seems to be the norm sadly, that or scotch locks (T taps) that are all corroded. I don't really understand why everyone seems to have to make a mess of it.

I had the trailer package on my dually so I just traced wires on the truck and wired in a new harness end that plugs into the 7 pin jack, that way if it gets damaged in theory I should be able to just replace the plug end without rewiring everything.
